I'll be marshalling on the run course in the northern section of Central Park. Good luck!!!

Thanks for volunteering! Stay cool out there. Make sure you remember to stay hydrated yourself!

For those who have done this race before...care to comment on mounting the bike? I'd normally leave the shoes clipped in and hop on, but I don't foresee being able to get into my shoes prior to climbing out of the park and I definitely don't want to get out of the saddle standing on my shoes...

Are you in red transition or yellow? If you're in yellow, you'll have a little distance between the mount line and the climb out of the park (maybe 200y max?). If you're in Red, the distance is much shorter.

The path between T1 and the climb is narrow, with runners coming out of swim exit running in the opposite direction, separated from you by a row of cones. It's a no-passing zone, but you inevitably get people who ignore the signs.

You'll see what I mean when you go to your transition on Saturday to check in. If you take the tour, they'll take you right up to where the climb out of the park is and you'll be able to see the distance between the climb and transition.

I'd say that unless you're in the yellow transition and are 100% sure you can get into your shoes in that short distance between T1 and the right turn out of the park, you might be better off clipping in at the mount line.

Great job, guys! I was volunteering on the run course on the second Harlem Hill (after Lasker Pool). I saw a lot of determined athletes out there, and it was HOT. Mad props!!! Cool

I've volunteered at that aid station. It's easy to feel like you're in Siberia all the way up there. Thanks for volunteering--those ice bags were just what I needed!

Awesome race - thanks to all the people helping out.  I was one of the guys on the team with the American flag / jean short (jort) 1 piece suits.  Loved all the support in the park and all the cold water to cool me down.  Cant wait to do it again next year.

We saw you too! My son thought it was hilarious.

Does the tiger carry any significance, or is it something fun you do in races?

The park had already started to fill up with non-race-participants by the time you went by where we were sitting, so at first I assumed you were just one of those “interesting” New Yorkers you see in the park from time to time. Then I noticed your race number.

Absolutely, thank you to all the volunteers. It was such a well organized and supported race and everything went really smoothly for me. Glad everyone else had the same experience. And a PR by 20 mins for me yesterday!

So much fun.  My first oly.

For the massive amount of people the event was ran so well.  Volunteers really helped motivate w cheering!

I just wish I was in an earlier heat... Waited about 2 1/2 hrs to start.  First male was already done by time I started.  Also missed out on the stronger current.

I died on the run but overall was happy with results.  A few things I learned:

1.  As everyone says don't use new equipment in a race.  I had a new bottle cage on my torpedo setup and it basically did as described torpedo'd my water bottle on to the road.

2.  Don't grab everything volunteers hand you.  For some reason I grabbed the vaseline and used it but it got all over me and I basically ran two miles w hands covered in vaseline.  I don't even think I really needed it because I had prepped prior to the event w body glide.

3.  Don't soak myself in water by dropping water over my head or running thru showers.  My feet got so wet that it was causing foot pain / blisters.

I enjoyed it, sounds like it went well for everyone. 2:20 - A little disappointed but I pushed the bike (for me) and paid for it on the run. And I'm a noob...first oly ever. Oh well.

haha...i started in the 30-34 age group and coupled with my slow speed i knew well ahead that i would be one of the last finishers :p

This is the first race i was running with the tiger on my back. i also wore the "save tigers" t-shirt, which explains why i was carrying it. i am passionate about the cause, so in mind own mind i was doing it to spread awareness, which also gives me much needed motivation. From now on i plan to carry it at every tri i do. watch out for a bigger and better tiger next year if i get through

You should let the RD know next time. They love stories like that. You could probably get a mention on their web page.

I'm really sad that the race is over! What is everyone racing for the rest of the summer? Any other highly recommended sprint or Olympic-distance races?

I was thinking about doing the Staten Island tri (http://nytc.org/dbacceptance.cfm?ID=22) - a sprint. Not sure its highly recommended, but given that I don't have the car, its the right location and price, plus registration is still open!
