Subject: If I am not sore after a race....

Is that indicative of anything?  Bad or good?  When I started doing sprints and Olympics I'd get pretty sore a couple days later.  This season I've lost some weight and am racing these distances faster than ever before, but in one sprint and 2 Olys this year I have no residual muscle soreness, which I find odd.  Is this good?  bad?  Indifferent?  I do get fatigued for a few days after a race.

I don't feel like I could go much faster at the moment.....

HIM, definitely get muscle soreness

If you're not sore, you're not going fast enough!

You don't want to be injured after a race, but at the very least you should be fatigued. Do you feel like you have more to give? or are you going all out?

Your body is probably recovering faster since you've been training for a while and you've lost weight

i'd say that's normal.  soreness means your body wasn't prepared for the race, fatigue means you pushed it harder than you are used to and left nothing on the course.

there was a thread on here before about being sore after doing some activity, and what it came down to was a confusion between fatigue and soreness.  anyone who has done a lot of lifting recognizes the difference, but it may not be as apparent to those who have not.

After my last sprint my legs felt like they could have taken more. It was my cardio vascular system that was begging for mercy.

Once I finished and got myself collected I felt fine, no muscle soreness.

You've been doing this a long time Chris.

When I first started I would be sore after all my races. When fit last couple of years I'd be sore only after HIM or IMs not sprints or Olys.

Very cool you are setting PBs and are faster after all the years you have been tri'ing!

I always had something like this when running XC in high school. I would feel like I gave it my all on the course, but shortly afterwards the endorphins would still be kicking and I would mentally think I had the energy to go after it again.

I agree - fatigue yes, soreness not required.  I might have a little spot that hurts more than usual (almost always plantar fasciitis flare up), but nothing overall.     Sounds like you are just fit!

I do get that sore everytime I try a new class at the gym or really any new activity..  Getting older stinks.

For me, it's the stair test.  When I'm fatigued, I walk up and down the stairs really slow because I'm simply tired...sort of like a zombie.  When I'm sore, I feel like I can walk up and down the stairs at normal speed...it just a little sore to do so.

After any race...sprint, oly, HIM, 10k, HM, etc...I'm sore the next day.  For shorter races though, I'm not that fatigued.  I can go for a swim or bike ride the next day at a pretty decent effort because it's non impact and the soreness won't bother me too much.  For longer races like a HIM or marathon...I'm sore AND fatigued the next day...and the soreness will linger longer than the fatigue.  Usually need to take one full day off, until the fatigue subsides, then I just train through the soreness.

I'm LESS sore, if that matters.

After my first IM, I was a wreck for a week.  Up and down stairs was next to impossible.  The last couple IM's I felt pretty good with no significant soreness the next day.  Just tired.  I was back to training in a couple days.
