Subject: Movies on TV

So, this drives me crazy.

WHY when a movie is on TV (for example, Harry Potter on ABC Family this weekend), does it have more expanded scenes than are on the DVD version?

This doesn't make any sense to me and drives me bananas.  I could see it having LESS scenes so that they can fit it within TV time constraints, but shouldn't the DVD be the MOST complete movie with nothing left out?  I am absolutely positive there are short segments (up to a minute or two) playing on TV right now that are NOT in the DVD version.

Someone please explain this to me so I can sleep tonight. :D

This, and how do they know what size my screen is when they reformat it?

Likely they are playing the director's cut which may or may not be the DVD version.  Usually when first released, DVDs have the theatrical release.  They then release the director's cut later.

Most of the earlier movies, 1990 and before, have scenes to be fillers for when they cut the violence or cussing from the movie itself so the film can be roughly the same length as the theater.

Some TV cuts are funny as hell from the '70s and '80s as the original movie has nothing that has not been broadcast on prime time TV regularly any more.

I read somewhere that almost none of the scenes in the preview for the new Pixar movie "Brave" are in the movie. The movie apparently goes of in a completely different direction from what you're led to beleive in the trailer

That's not true.  Almost all of the scenes in the trailer are in the movie...

You mean broadcast TV, like with commercials? I won't watch movies that are edited for TV or have commercial breaks.

Yes, broadcast TV with commercials.  When you are sitting in your living room looking for background noise don't you just choose a channel with a movie? :D

All the scenes from the trailer are in the movie but the story was completely different from what I was expecting from watching the trailers.
