excruciating knee pain immediately after run and then went away in 10 minutes

I ran for a hour this morning and walked back into my house. A few minutes later I had this horrible knee pain on the outside of my knee. It was excruciating! I started stretching and it didn't help. I hobbled to the shower and the hot water hit it. A few minutes later it was gone and now no issues. Have you ever had this happen? Wandering if was something to do with IT band??? Wow! It feels fine now (2 hours later)
