Tonight they said it's 74 for the stroke and stride and I'm wondering if I should try an OWS without my wetsuit just in case.

When are wave starts going to be out?

I don't know the answer tot he question on ever. They seem to be just under at race time. This would certainly be the year for non legal though.

EDIT: Woops, they are out. 30 minutes earlier this year, nice.

I haven't heard of it, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.  If it IS too warm legally for a wetsuit you're still allowed to wear one, you just won't be eligible for any awards (or at least that's how it was when 5430 ran the race).  At that point though I think 1.2 miles in a wetsuit could get pretty uncomfortable.

This race is one that most years the temp is too high and magically just barely makes it by race morning. It seems to me that in years past a lot of races magically make the wetsuit legal temp on race morning but this year WTC is being much more strict with this rule. I did Kansas 70.3 this year which is another that always is over temp but somehow makes it on race morning. This year they did not allow it though. I would be prepared for a non wetsuit race just in case.

I've heard for one race they measured the water temp at 4am at the bottom of the deepest part of the res.  They want people to succeed.  But practicing without a suit can only help.

I'm pretty sure that they drop the thermometer to the deepest part of the res to make sure it's cold enough to be wetsuit legal. There is no way that it should have been legal last year, yet it was. I was planning on wearing my wetsuit, regardless, since winning an award is not a consideration for me. I was fine in the wetsuit (full-sleeve, no less), but I also swim verrrrry slowly.
