Oh, I was so excited about posting for the first time, that I'm afraid I sent a textless message! Sorry!

I've always wanted to be someone who was in good shape. I've tried swimming, biking and running separately over the years and have never been able to stick with them. This idea of competing in a triathlon has always floated around in my mind, but I never even had the nerve to tell anyone that I wanted to be able to do it. Finally about six weeks ago I found a listing for a super sprint tri for women in September and I thought, "here's my chance...it's short enough and far enough away that I could really do it." I mentioned to a friend of mine that I was thinking of training for it and what do you know, she was interested too! It's been great to have someone to train with. About half of my workouts are with her and then we keep tabs on each other for our other workouts.

I can't believe how satisfying it is to train for 3 different sports. I'm really slow at all 3 (and a good 80 pounds overweight), but I keep making steady progress. This week I ran into a friend who said, "you look great...what are you doing?" I know that I glowed as I talked about training for a tri.

I've fallen in love with biking at 6am. It's hard to haul myelf out of bed, but the countryside is so beatiful. On my last ride I found myself squealing with delight at the feeling of zooming down the hills and even called out "good morning" to a few cows and sheep.

Thanks so much for providing this forum. It's been a tremendous motivator for me!

Welcome to the site! How funny that you talk to the cows while riding! I did the same thing two weeks ago during my first ever race! Good luck to you!

Welcome Debi, it is nice that you are falling in love with the triathlon experience. I can relate to you about the cycling as I also commute at 6:00 am and say "hi" to every little furry or plumed animal on the way in. This morning for instance I said "hi" to a gopher, a jack rabbit, some ducks with their ducklings, and a few cyclists.

Best of luck - you are on the right track. I am training for my first tri, too. I have mtn bike raced for a while. I am usually last, but I have fun. I have been known to stop in the middle of a race to check out an unusual wildflower. Last race, I complained to the race organizers that the course went too close a patch of pink ladyslippers. I saw one mangled by a zillion bike tires.

Keep talkin' to those cows. One of these days, they may talk back!

As a former road warrior I've long appreciated cows. They are much friendlier than cars and can't run as fast as the farmer's dog. Early morning is a magical time; I've often been late for work because I just didn't want to turn around. Enjoy the adventure!!
