Hey,

Does anyone have any suggestions on good places to go for bike training? I just converted my MTB into a road bike with some slicks, but I don't know where to go! I have been down to the Alameda Creek Trail in Fremont and on some roads around Miramonte High School in Moraga. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Depends if you are OK on the road, if so, many, many options.

A good way to find routes is to look up various cycling clubs in the area, let's see, a few I know off the top of my head:

Grizzly Peak Cyclists
Valley Spokesmen
Cherry Creek Cyclists (I think)
Sacramento Wheelmen (maybe)

Look up Bay Area cycling clubs.  The point of this is that all of them have a ride page where they list different rides and the routes you take.  A good way to get some low travel roads and so on.  Be aware, however, that a road that is great on the weekends may be awful during weekdays because of the commute traffic.

Other trails:
There's a trail in Lafayette/Moraga that goes by St. Mary's college.  Also those roads are nice on the weekends.

The Iron Horse Trail - from Concord all the way down to Dublin is nice, straight and mostly flat.

The Canal Trail (interesecting the Iron Horse Trail very close to Treat Blvd) is another option.

The Bay Area in general is great for bikes, there's lots of bike lanes and so on.

Have fun!

Shellee's got the 411 for East Bay riding.

If you find you want to tool around in Wine Country, let me know.  I'm always up for a ride.
