Subject: Suggestions for Madone near $3,000 range

Recently, my wife has mentioned that I should replace my Trek SLR1500 aluminum bike with an all carbon unit.  Who am I to disagree?

While I am no bike racer by any means, I am a front of the pack triathlete and do well in my age group at 52 years old.  I need a road bike to log long training miles that does not beat me up like my aluminum SLR1500.  My tri-bike, Speed Concept 7 feels like a luxury sedan compared to my road bike.

The local Trek dealer has taken such good care of me that I am very reluctant to even consider another brand or buying online.

So if you had three grand and wanted a Madone, which model would you get?

Thanks

Mark

Sounds like the Trek you want is a Cervelo R3.

Since you enjoy the smooth ride, you might want to check out their new Domane models.  they're basically designed to compete with the Specialized Roubaix.  You'll trade some of that snappy handling for a more comfortable ride.  the Domane is over $4K I believe.

Treks are great bikes... but they aren't the cheapest out there.  There are a number of Roubaix models sub $3K depending on component level.  The Cervelo R3 is around $3K I think.

but if you're looking for a smooth ride/endurance bike- they're out there.  nice ones.  enjoy.

I'd visit the shop and see whats on sale/wait a few months/(if you're friendly enough with them) let them know you're in the market and you'd be interested when they are ready to move product.

In my humble opinion, it just depends what color components you like.

If you're looking for more comfort, I would agree that something like a Specialized Roubaix, or a Cannondale Synapse would be the ideal bike you're looking for.

For that price, you are about in the Madone 5.2 range, give or take a little bit.  My wife has the WSD version and loves it.
