Subject: Beaver Lake - Has anyone done it?
Got a flyer for the Beaver Lake Sprint Triathlon and just curious if anyone has done it in the past.  Thoughts?

I did this race last year.  It's a great race!  Well organzied.  Warm lake.  The bike is VERY hilly but I like hills!  Also note the run is longer than most sprints, just over 4 miles.

I was surprised there wasn't a race listing/report. I did a search and found one from '09, but it was links to race reports. You can PM MedusaAnn (Leslie) she lives pretty close to there and it looks like she has done it a few times.

I looked at that and it did look like a fun one. DT (husband) and I actually did an OWS in Beaver Lake last May. It was early season but that lake wasn't bad at all - so I could imagine it would be quite nice in August! Their website says that water temp is usually up to 77, which is one degree below wetsuit "legal-ness".

I also saw that they have a new bike route this year due to construction - although I read the words "2 mile staircase like hill"...ewww!

Good luck! Let us know if you do it and how you like it!

I live really close by to it.  It is a popular race and well done.  I haven't done the race but have been on all of the routes.

The lake is warm and often used for OWS practices.

The bike will take you down and back up this road:

The run around the lake is pretty, also.

It is a good race.

Yeah, I've done it many times, its a fun one, with a nice short swim. I'm concerned about the changes in the bike course, I think there might be too much opportunity for collision on the road, it's such a fast and curvy downhill. I hope they close the road, at least. I haven't looked at the website to see details about it for this year. I do know it's pretty expensive, though, but a good event. There's a chance I will do it again, it will be a last minute decision.

Beaver Lake is a great event in a beautiful area! I raced there last year for what was my first ever Triathlon. Looking forward to racing again in a few weeks.

Sounds like I need to get out and ride the new course, the downhill portion will be a bit more technical than the previous course. And I agree with Medusa Ann, I hope they close down the road, with riders going both ways could be sketchy with car traffic.

The possibility of not having the road closed off worries me a little. Oh well, I'll give it a try and take my chances. Worse case, I'll just go slower than normal.

What doesn't kill you... lol

My husband and I live very nearby and that is our go-to route when riding from home, and do lots of OWS there. We are undecided on that race, due to Ironman training. Not sure it will fit into the training schedule when we need to be doing much longer distances at that point. We'll see...
