Saw this on the Tri Rock Austin Website...

Swim Rules/Regulations

 

  1. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SWIM WAVE TIME AND BE PREPARED WHEN IT IS CALLED.
  2. The swim course is marked very clearly with large buoy’s.
  3. WETSUIT INFO: All races will be wetsuit legal. Wetsuits are recommended but NOT required!

Well it really be wetsuit legal???

I highly doubt it.

In the past CapTex, which is at the same venue on Memorial Day, has been wet suit legal, but this year it was too hot.  If they flush the lake with water from Lake Austin immediately before measuring the water temp, there is a chance that it would be cool enough.

 

Here is the info from 2011:  The official water temperature for the 2011 AVIA Austin Triathlon is 83 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to the warm air and water temperatures, wetsuits will not be legal for any participants.

Thanks for the info, I went last year as a spectator to the labor day event. I didn't see one wetsuit, so after reading that I was scratching my head. Thanks again.

Even if they flush the lake I don't think the temp will go down that much.  The water was almost warm at CapTex and that was before summer.  Doesn't matter to me either way, I'm not wearing one.
