Anyone doing this race? I rode the course over the weekend. Kind of boring bike course. The highlights of the trail I was on ended up not being part of the course. I had the most fun on the trails that will be the run course. I imagine this event could be wicked hot.

I'll be there. Did it last year and yes, wicked hot. It was 90 when I finished. There's very little shade anywhere. Fingers crossed for clouds and a breeze . The bike isn't terribly challenging but there are lots of opportunities to pass us slower pokes which is good (although I'm sure you're in a faster division so your second lap should be the only one you'll have to worry about us slower riders). It's a well run race and the swim is gorgeous.

I'm actually a little worried about the bike. Seems like it could be so fast there will be more potential for crashing than Curt Gowdy where I never went all that fast because it was so technical. I love to ride but I've never been a mtn bike racer!

Good luck!

Be wary of the sharp turns and you'll be fine . I'm only worried about the one really sandy section near the bottom of the long (and very fun) downhill. I fishtailed a bunch in that sand pit during my pre-ride a couple weekends ago. I did see a bunch of flats last year but only one or 2 crashes. Like I said, I'm in the slower group so I don't get going that fast to begin with .

You'll do fine, I'm sure! Enjoy your race and good luck to you!

Hey guys, this is definitely a great race.  I can't race in it this year due to my glute min/psoas/ITBand flaring up.  In saying that I have a registration spot for sale!  I have the paperwork ready for whoever wants it ($80 OBO), I got it from the race director, Lance P.

Nice work indianhillsted!! It certainly wasn't pretty for me either. Good point about the swim... and here I thought I crushed it . Makes sense to me as well that it wasn't 880 yards, though. The heat, once again, killed me on the run. At least I was able to run more of it than last year... still walked about half of it though.

I know what you mean about the swim. Last week I thought it was an 800 swim so I was shooting for 16 min, then the day before the race I saw 880 so I figured at least 17 min. When I got out of the water and my watch some 13 something I was shocked! I thought even though I didn't push that hard maybe I had the most perfect form I'm ever done! Now I'm wondering if it was even 700. I would like to know the distance from the water to T1....seems like it could have been a 1/4 mile?

Let's see... I swim a pretty consistent 1:50 / 100yrd. I was out of the water at 15:06. There's no way I swam faster than normal since I breast stroked in spots to avoid congestion. So, best case the distance was ~ 800 yds. I think if they went any further we'd run into the wall . It took me almost 2 minutes to get from the water to the timing mat at T1 but I walked the majority. It did feel like forever but I don't think it was quite 1/4 mile.

I'll be interested to see what they do with this race and Curt Gowdy next year. Sounds like they're thinking about swapping the dates. Lory won't be any cooler in July.

Have fun out there!
