Subject: All3sports Tri Package

I'm looking to get into doing some tri's soon.  My biggest obstacle is finding a bike.  I've seen the advertisements for All3sports tri package.  Since I'm  a newbie, has anyone gotten this and how was the package?

Would I be better off in getting everything piecemeal instead and getting a better bike?

Thanks for everyone's help.

depends on if you like their bike choices I guess.  It is a bit constraining- especially if the geometry of the Kilo or Kilo C don't fit you all that well.

It is a pretty good 'deal', but not if those aren't the things you wanna buy.  Bike purchases are hard decisions.  Fit, feel, components, price- it gets very complicated very quickly.

If you take your time, find good deals on all the individual pieces- you'll probably end up paying a bit more, but at least you'll eventually get what you want.

do you not currently have any bike? You don't need a "tri" bike to compete.

No, I don't have a bike at all.  I realize I don't have to have a tri bike to compete.  I'm 6'3" and was fitted for a bike a while ago.  I was told I needed a 61cm bike.  The shop I went to, couldn't even get one in, they didn't stock them.

Now, that shop is out of business.  Any road bike I'd like to get, would cost just under what a tri bike would cost.  So, I figured I'd go ahead and get a tri bike.

I've looked on Craig's list, eBay, for any good used bike, but nothing in the 61cm range.  Mostly 54cm.

if your only bike is a TT bike- think about how you will normally be riding and training.  road bikes are much more versatile.  but- if you will be doing most of your training solo and not in groups, and you've got a lot of long open spaces to ride- then a TT bike will be a great choice.

I've taken to riding my TT bike pretty much all the time and like it- but it really depends on your situation.

A 61cm what?! A 61 cm from one brand, might be very similar to a 59 from another, large from a 3rd, XL from a 4th, 63 from a 5th and so on.... Also a 61 cm from one brand may be vastly different than a 61 cm from another. Add to that, that even if you look at the geometry table from two manufacturers and the numbers read exactly the same, they still may be very different because they were measured differently... center-center, center-top, center-bottom, center-virtual point, virtual point-virtual point, etc. etc. etc...

You really need to know what geometry you need and how that was measured...
