I live about an hour away from South Williamsport, where the Little League World Series is held each August.

Uganda had reason to celebrate when Stephen Kiprotich outran two Kenyans in London, to take the gold.

Now the first team from Africa is in the Little League World Series, and they are from Uganda. Their parents are not with them, since they were unable to get travel visas in time. I know some folks involved with team support, so they are getting good hospitality while here. According to a friend of mine, they are not used to playing on grass, or with shoes.

I doubt they'll be contenders for the championship, but keep your eye on the underdogs of underdogs.

I watched them play yesterday. Every time there was a foul ball out of play the catcher's first instinct was to go chase it. He didn't realize they had more than one ball. I was very impressed with their focus. They made some very heads up baseball plays. Love this type of story.
