Almost hit a pedestrian while cycling today

Arghh ... I almost hit a pedestrian while cycling today. I was riding through a village on my way back and the tourists were out in masses. A couple was walking in the road (there was a sidewalk but they weren't using it) ahead of me. And, they were walking with the traffic and not against it so they couldn't see me or any cars coming behind them. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to give them a wide a berth because just as I was riding up on them the guy started crossing the street without even looking back to see if anything was coming up behind him. Glad for him that I wasn't a car.
