Subject: 20 min run

hi,

Is is worth doing a 20 min run? training wise this is all I can fit in twice a week I can do a longer on 2 other days but I'm worried that 4x week will not be enough to improve (am beginner plodder) if 2 sessions are only 20 mins.  I could increase this but would have to drop bike or swim time,

what do you think??

Yes, do the 20 min runs, it will be beneficial to your training over time. Look at it this way, let's say you run 10 min miles, in that 20 min you have covered 2 miles. Do that 2 x week and you have 4 extra miles for the week without a lot of extra stress on your body/joints/tendons.

There is a saying that I've learned since joining the BT community - runs lots, mostly easy, sometimes hard. There are a lot of great discussions and advice in previous threads about this topic. I'll see if I can find some for and post a link.

Generally, yeah - do them!  How much they help may depend on how long your other runs are...heck - there was a time where 20 minutes was my long run.

Yes.  Frequency is as if not more important than duration.

There are studies that show that 20-30min HIIT is more efficient than 1hr runs at a steady speed in terms of building fitness.

Yes a 20min. run will add fitness.  Make sure to keep the quality high.  For much of my racing career my go-to run was 3-4 miles at 20-30sec/mile slower than open 10k race pace.
