Subject: Mooseman or Rev3 Quassy

I'm looking to do a 70.3 in June somewhere in the north east.  Was debating between Mooseman or Rev3 Quassy.   I've done a few Rev3 Olympic's and they were well run.  I know the hills at Quassy are not easy but also heard there is a hill of death at Mooseman.

Anyone out their enter both of these have any perspective on which they prefer?

Was also contemplating Eagleman.

Thanks

Pretty sure Mooseman is done completely, including next year (2013). Quassy is a very good race. And the hills are definitely a challenge. I actually did not find the hills on the bike as hard as had been described, but rather there are so many of them that it just slows you down. Don't mistake that for "easy" though. I trained for very hard hills throughout the winter & spring, getting up to the toughest local ones I could find. 4,000 ft in a HIM bike is no joke. There seems to be only 2-3 miles of flat ground if you add it all together. And this is not just a slug fest to get over. You have to negotiate things all over as these are definitely the tighter, twisting New England roads. They keep it interesting. Time just flew by for me.

The run is also a challenge. No consistency on any of the hills, so never a chance to get a rhythm. The big hill on the far side of the lake is a killer.

If you're up for a big challenge, this is a very good race to do. It's one I'm planning to go back to more so than others.

Rev3 Quassy is a great race and a very challenging course. The bike is about 2500 feet of climbing one cat 3 and about 6 cat 5 climbs and the run is relatively hilly as well, but at the same time the course it very scenic and has a very cool small race vibe to it despite being over 1000 athletes. Plus staging the race at the amusement park gives the support crew something to keep themselves entertained during the race. I have done every Rev3 race at Quazzy since the first one back in 2009 and it is hands down my favorite race each season.

Never did Mooseman but did Tiberman. Believe the bike is somewhat similar. Nice area and had a good time. Both lakes are very clean and crisp.

Eagleman is a cool race with lots of history but is flat as a pancake and folks are very fast. Sells out quick. Did it twice and enjoyed it but the course it far less scenic or entertaining than Quazzy or Tiberman, and the swim had jellyfish one year which sucked. That said I PRed on Eagleman one year and PRed the bike the other so it is fast.
