Day 928, 20.3 miles in some very hot humid conditions. I lost 6 lbs on the run but took in over 100 oz of water too and three things of shot blocks. For some who my weight that is a lot in 20 miles. I feel great though and had a good strong run.

#112 - 7 miles - The good news is that I finally got a long (for me) run in. The bad news is that I used up all the roads in my neighborhood, so variety is out the window for this week.
#113 - 2 miles - I'm umpiring for 8 year olds tonight, so I have to squat extra deep to see the strike zone. Here's hoping I don't go all jelly-legged behind the plate.

So, really you lost 12 pounds and put back 6? That is a lot. Nice job!

Run #18

Having trouble keeping up with my logs, so by the time I do them I forget which shoes I ran in.
Guess I have too many shoes in the rotation.

Day 930, 10 mile progressive run. The last two mile were sub 7 minute miles. My legs tried to revolt against the pace but they managed. What a very humid morning it is too. I look like I just got out of the water, dripping wet.

Nice run. Same deal here, you could wring a gallon of sweat out of my clothes after my run.

My car finally died, so until I get a new one I am relying on rides from my wife, my bike, and my legs. My gym/pool is 1/2 mile from my job, so I can go there to shower. I ran to work yesterday, and ran home today after my swim workout. The only thing is that I have to carry everything in a backpack (work clothes/workout gear/food/drinks) which is about 10 pounds, and I can tell you I really notice the extra weight.

I took two different routes, since the one I took yesterday was not runner friendly, there was no shoulder on a busy road, just a guardrail with a deep ditch on the other side. It was very unnerving having the cars flying past me with nowhere for me to go. So todays run was safer, but a bit longer.

#596- 8.3 mi after 2500 yd swim

Imsore, I guess summer is here for a while. I had another humid run today. Hopefully your car will get fixed soon.

#597- 11 mi progression. Actually, today was quite cool, chilly even.

Ran late afternoon/evening. Did a tough 1 hour ride with 6 x 5 min with 90 sec RI. Legs were a little heavy for the run, but the cool weather was nice, and I was able to get up to a good pace. Got to about 7:20 mi/mi after 2 miles, was comfortable there, then started dropping the pace for the last 4 miles by about 15 sec/mi.

Relay for Life starts tonight @ 6pm. Looking forward to see how many miles I can do in 14 hours. There are going to be a lot of activities going on so I will be lucky if I can get 30 miles in. Just want to see how it feels to run through the night, if I ever get to do a 100 miler.

#598- 4 mi after swim

#599- 2 mi, moved recovery day from Sunday, had no time for training today

#600- 4 mi run after 4 hour ride.

Started ride at dawn, and rode outside. I have not ridden much outside this year, and remembered the love/hate relationship. Fresh air, real climbs and descents = fun. Jerk pickup driver "buzzing" me with inches to spare (I really have nothing against pickup drivers, but they seem to be more obnoxious than other drivers as a whole), hitting pavement at the bottom of a steep descent that looked like it was hit by heavy artillery = not fun.

#601- 18 mi.

I usually don't do my long ride then long run on back to back days, but I really had a rough schedule this week with no car and had to squeeze it in. Surprisingly, it went well. I thought I would be dragging my feet, but I had a spring in my step. Mixed in 4 miles of trails, and finished my last 10 miles avg. 7:20ish pace.

I think I've run well lately because my weight has come down a bit. After my run I was at 163, which is the lowest number that I've seen on the scale since I was in high school. Some of the weight loss was hydration, but not all that much, I was 165 in the morning before the run.

In my early 30s, my kids were first born, I was working alot, I wasn't exercising at all and my weight went up to 215. I would have never believed that my weight could get down to the point where I may see 150s at some point. And I am hardly anorexic, just fit.

Great job on the run and the weight loss.

I had gotten up as high as 250 and right now I am hovering around 148-150. I would like to get back in the 130's, I am 5' 9", but I am not sure I can get back there. I like my beer too much and food is always an issue for me, portion control mostly. If it is there I will usually eat it. I am far from anorexic myself.

The dog seems to be better and started running with me again yesterday morning. I'm going to keep her under two miles a day and make her take a day off every week, but it's nice to have my buddy back. I'm still struggling with finding time for the miles I want to do each week, but school ends in a week and I'll have more time than I need.

How did it go? The one I did last month was fairly poorly organized, but I still had a great time.

Relay for Life went ok for out first year. We raised over $1000. With all the time we have spent at the hospital the last few months we had a lot of last minute things to do. The morning of the relay my son wasn't feeling the best so he wasn't going to make it down for his lap.
We had great weather and my wife came down for the start.
We had a small team of 5, 2 of which were leaving at 10. The track was full so I was doing a fast walk and figured I would run as the track thinned out.
About 10pm my wife called and told me my son was getting a fever and we needed to take him back to the hospital, since the hospital he goes to is 50 miles away that would be the end of the relay for me.
My 2 remaining team mates kept the walking up till 2am. I was surprised to learn a lot of the teams packed up about that time, even though it is supposed to run until 8am.

After a couple days of meds my son is doing better again. spent a quite day in the hospital with him and my wife.

I ended up with 5 miles of fast walking. Now I have a sore hip, I think the fast walking hurt more than a slow jog would have. something to remember for next year.

Day 937, 10.1 miles. The number 937 is significant to me, it was the hull number of the first ship I served on in my naval career, USS Davis DD 937, back in 1982 I was aboard the old girl. Man I am getting old, I was till a single guy back then too, soon to be married to my wife of over 31 years now.
