#932- 7 mi trail run. Tried out some new gear. I bought a hydration pack for my long summer training days and probably for my race, I got the "Salomon S-lab Advanced Skin Hydro 5 Set," it wasn't cheap, but I managed to snag one at $145 which was cheaper than I had seen it in the past. I think they may have a new model out. Either way, I liked it. It was hot so I actually tempted fate and didn't wear a shirt underneath. I figured it would be a good way to root out any problem areas with rubbing/chafing. I actually had no issues. I ran for just under 70 minutes and did quite a bit of bouncing and it was snug but not constricting. So far I'd say it was a good buy.

And even though it wasn't cheap, my wife didn't even blink. With the IM's for the last two years and all the triathlon gear I've amassed this really isn't a drop in the bucket!

#933- 7.3 mi trail run. It was a nice day so I figured why not hit the trails again.

Kept the streak going too.

Marathon was Day #180
#181 - 2.000000 miles
#182 - 2.14 miles

X

Thanks for the report, I'd be curious to see your actual splits. And that day after run to keep the streak is always rough. Once I can make it 50 feet or so I can get a good enough shuffle going but it isn't pretty.

Nope it wasn't.  To make it even worse it was 40F 20-25mph wind and heavy rain.  Added the hardcore factor though.

Here are my splits:

#1 - 8:34:49
#2 - 7:54.01 - This was 0.91 miles - I synced my watch to the actual miles.  The indoor start through off the GPS.
#3 - 8:40:96
#4 - 8:32.92
#5 - 8:31.96
#6 - 8:40.96
#7 - 8:38.54
#8 - 8:45.35
#9 - 8:41.44
#10 - 8:37.49
#11 - 8:46.29
#12 - 9:13.53
#13 - 8:15.93
#14 - 8:24.57
#15 - 8:35.56
#16 - 8:47.80
#17 - 8:45.45
#18 - 8:38.37
#19 - 8:36.01
#20 - 8:51.19
#21 - 8:46.09
#22 - 9:07.11
#23 - 9:15.53
#24 - 9:13.86
#25 - 9:10.50
#26 - 9:09.58
#27 - 4:58.44

One extra split again because of how I started.  I did not have GPS signal at the start and decided to sync my watch with the mile markers on the course.  Looks like I did pretty good up until mile #22.  I settled into a slower but still somewhat consistent pace.

Here are my splits:

I think you paced it very well. You didn't go out too fast and you definitely did not fall apart. You lost a few minutes, maybe 3-4 from mile 20 on, but otherwise it looked solid. I think if you work on getting your base miles up you should be able to take it home strong. Nice race!

#934- 12 miles with 2000+ feet of gain on some trails again! Slow going today though. I averaged in the 11-12 min/mi range. I took a nice fall too. I got out to a new area and took on some new trails. I got a bit lost a few times, and that's what actually caused the fall. I had my head up looking for trail blazes and should have paid more attention to my feet. A few scrapes and bruises is all. I totally jinxed myself though and was thinking just yesterday that I hadn't fallen all year, even with the snow and ice!!!

I will be heading back there I think. It wasn't as much elevation gain as I was looking for, but it had some good sections. There is a 0.4 mile section that gains 100 ft per tenth of a mile, a few repeats on that and I could get the elevation total up pretty quick. There were alot of large rolling rocks in some places which weren't too fun, but it gives me more experience and overall the trails were good. I could probably put together a solid 10 mile loop.

That is some serious elevation gain.  This is one area where I am lacking is in the hills.  I could make excuses about it being flat where I live but I know plenty of places where I could get good hill work outs in.

#185 - 2.00 Miles.  Still in recovery.  Feeling pretty good but no reason to go at it hard again.  I am going down to Chicago this weekend and will take it easy with running there as well.  There should be a good amount of walking around so at least I'll be getting movement in.  If all goes well I am planing on getting back at it on Monday.

I need to find another Marathon either in June or July.  Anyone have any suggestions for the states around Wisconsin?  Trail marathons work too!

I actually am looking to get a bit more gain in than that. The 100 miler averages over 230 ft gain per mile. I don't have many places to go that get me that sort of elevation change. I'll be heading out in the summer about 90 minutes to the northwest and there are a few small mountains that top out at about 1500 feet, and that will be probably the best I will get.

Until then I'll be making do. I've started to do some work on the treadmill at 15% incline (700+ ft/mile) and I think it will help.

For your marathon, check out this link, www.runningintheusa.com . You can list marathons by weekend and look in your region.

    #935- 4 mi recovery

#936- 6.2 mi run, 2000 ft treadmill "hike" (approximately 2.7 mi), 0.5 mi recovery jog

That hike was no joke. I did it it about 43-44 min, it was almost as long as my run! The short jog I did afterwards reminded me alot of the how my legs feel coming off the bike. I think I will need that hiking skill for my race, so I will definitely keep the hikes in my routine.

Day 88 yesterday wit a 10.5 mile trail run. The trail is actually almost 13 miles but my Garmin comes out anywhere between 10.5-10.8. This is not unusual on trails though that snake all around. Getting a bit stronger on this trail.

I've been going by time lately. I'll just run for a set amount of time and whatever I end up with is what I get mileage wise. I will usually do a quick out and back at the end to finish on a round number though!

#937- 10 mi on treadmill again (have to be home with kids, wife still out of town). I spiced it up a bit with 1/4 mile intervals at 10.3 mph at the end of each mile for 5 repeats though. My legs were feeling pretty good and I just went for it.

#938- 8 mi treadmill and spent a good day with my daughters, we hiked a small trail together and did some fishing (didn't catch a thing!)

#939- 4 mi took it easy because I felt that I may have been getting sick, but I'm guessing it was allergies because it cleared up pretty quick

#940 - 6.2 mi run, 2.56 mi treadmill hike at 15% with 2000 ft gain. Still a tough workout, and I can't really hike faster than a 16:40 min/mi pace without feeling the need to jog.

The one thing that does have me a bit nervous with all the trail running this year is the whole Lyme Disease issue around here. I live in central NJ and we are right in the deer tick hotspot. I try to check myself good but these things are so tiny (like the size of a poppy seed) that I cant help but think I will miss one.

We have the same issue here, I have gotten one tick on my this year so far. I check myself a lot after my runs in the woods, usually every couple hour for a day or two for that very reason, they are so small. Of all places for a tick this one was on my shin. I usually wear compression shorts while trail running to keep them out of that area.

Tuesday - #660 - 4 miles of speed work, then 90 minutes on the bike trainer
Wednesday - #661 - 9 miles after a 2K yard swim, although I pretty much crashed at the 6 mile mark. I've been going physical therapy for some lower back pain and I think the combo of that and the previous day's speed work, I just didn't have it. I essentially walked most of the last 3 miles.
