Subject: New wetsuit questions (not fit related)

The UPS box with my new wetsuit just arrived and I'm wondering if there is something that I should do with the wetsuit before jumping in the pool/ocean to start using it.  Should I rinse it off in the shower?  Do I need to 'clean' it/wipe it down since it's brand new and has that 'smell'?

Or should I just go swimming with it?

Thanks.

One thing to consider would be just to soak it in the bathtub for a while and let it dry before you use it. If it's been sitting around waiting for shipment for a while, it may have lost some of its elasticity. At least, this is what I'm led to believe, and the process of soaking it should help the suit regain its elasticity. Supposedly, this is something worth doing at the beginning of the season, as well. I can't vouch for it, since I've only owned mine for a few weeks.

I could be wrong.

It's ok to use sparingly in pool to "try Out" but the chemicals/chlorine could harm material over time. Just rinse really well with clean water inside and out afterwards.

I threw mine in the bathtub and soaked it for an hour or so.  It was really funky smelling and hund it up inside out overnight to dry.  I have only used mine in the pool a couple of times.  Xterra says don't do it at all, or if you need to, very minimally and make sure to wash all chemicals off.  If they can tell it's been in a pool the warranty could be void.

That being said, jump in the lake and take off.  we are in September and the time for OWS is starting to end.
