Subject: Quietest bike trainer? CycleOps Fluid 2?

Hi,

I want to buy a bike trainer in the range of $200-300. I will ride outdoors as long as possible, but I do not want to have to skip my bike training for a couple of weeks because of ice and snow on the roads. Unfortunately spin classes and gym membership are quite expensive, probably around $400-500 for the winter period. Not only would I spend much more money on my bike training, but also only get a maximum of 1.5h of training per week without having a bike trainer to keep afterwards.

Since I live in a small dorm room, noise is one of the decisive factors. So which bike trainer is the quietest? So far I am looking at the CycleOps Fluid 2, which is in my price range, seems of good quality, and seems to be fairly quiet (???)( magazine and customer reviews sometimes appear to be contrary).

Thanks for your help in advance,

Max

I have a 1UP USA trainer.  It is ridiculously quiet, like my shifting is the only thing I hear.  Well, the fan and the shifting.

I have both a Kurt Kinetic and Cycleops Fluid 2.  I would say they are about the same noise level.  FWIW, I wouldn't call either of them "quiet", more like "less noisy".

It might be yet a better idea to exercise in your school's gym, honestly.

Trainers still take up a good amount of space once they're set up. Fine for houses/garages, not so good for cramped dorm rooms.

Thanks a lot for all the insights guys.

I went to the bike shop here and asked this morning. I can return it and get the full refund without explanations within a 60 day period. So I think I am just gonna test it out, whether neighbours will complain or whether I do not have enough space.

I can only vouch for.my cycleops and it is very quiet but you can't go wrong with a kk either.

Get a rubber mat for under it.  1) it will be easier to clean up the sweat.  2) It will dampen the noise, especially for your downstairs neighbors.

But even with the quietest trainer if you are doing it right your curses and screams will still be disturbing to those around you.

The fan is going to make a lot more noise than what's been suggested. I don't hear my KK at all, and my fan is a bit quiet for what it can do.

I made the mistake a buying a KK wind trainer first because of $$ and I wasnt sure how much I would use it. Long story short I now own 2 KK road machines that I use the heck out of (one for me one for my wife.) Road Machine is quiet enough to use while my kids are napping in their rooms down the hall.
