I was reading the article by Mark Allen which has four phases with the fourth being 'Chisel' which should end 3 weeks before your main event.

My question is, what do you do for 3 weeks prior to your event.

What do you do when you taper? I have a sprint on June 25th. I did a 5K (trail run) on Saturday and felt extremely slow. I also did 800 meters today and felt sluggish and my arms burned more than usual. So what do I do from now till then? I'm obviously at my slowest and am not peaking for the 25th.

Now what?

I read that article also and it is a great program. I recommend these weight workouts to my athletes that I coach. To answer your question, for a sprint I would worry about stoping weight training 3 weeks prior to your race. You can back off and go to a lower weight so you don't feel as sluggish. That comment was directed more at long course (IM and HIM) athletes as they taper longer for their events. IMO weight training helps to prevent injury and stregthens key muscle groups. Think about it this way, with stronger quads, glutes, and calves your run and bike are going to improve. Shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps, and lats are going to make your swim better. Hope that this helps.

Exactly what Rocketman said. I used Mark Allen for my HIM in May.  All strength training was stopped 3 weeks prior to the event for the taper.  Sprints, I dont think to keep strength training all the way through except for a day or two prior to the event.
