Hi, just introducing myself! I am new to tris and actually new to any kind of events at all. (I like to think of them as events rather than races as the only person I will be racing is me!) In September I did a 10k run (59 minutes) the first "race" for me ever. I went into my running store two weeks ago to buy shoes and the next thing I knew I was signed up for a beginners triathalon clininc (it is a very dangerous store). So I am training for a sprint or a try-a-tri August 8th. So far so good, I can do all the distances on their own no problem, but slowly and am just starting to put them together! Anyway happy triing!

Hi Kirsten!

Where is your tri on August 8th?

You will have no problem if you can do the distances seperatedly already!

Happy triing!

Hi! It is in Peterborough (eastern Ontario). I went to the pool yesterday (had been swimming in open water) just to see what 500m was all about, and it was fine. Easy consistent pace was about 13minutes. I was trying not to push off sinec I won't have that luxury. The sprint is 500m swim, 20K bike and 5k run. Anyone know what the middle to back of the pack finishes in?

Hi Cangirl, I am also from Ontario....Ottawa. You asked about mid-pack and back of pack finishing times. In the last tri I participated in, the middle participant, #167, came in with a time of 1:26 and the last person, #334, came in with a time of 2:10. A better way to gauge your aptitude would be to look at your age and gender group finishes.

Greetings from Kingston, Ont.  I am impressed that many of the other Canadians have responded too!  Sounds like you went into a Running Room and got excited! I have to keep out of there or I spend tons of $.  Signing up for tri clinics is a good outcome of going into the store.

Good luck training!

Jen
