Roster link here for those interested: http://www.usatriathlon.org/audience/team-usa/auckland/team-info-pages.aspx

It's an EXPENSIVE endeavor. You qualify, you pay your way. Kinda stinks.

My teammate, Julia Ledewitz is racing in the female 25-29 category. She had her bike stolen and ran her own fundraiser to be able to replace her bike and go to worlds.

I imagine that 20-24 and 25-29 might have a hard time making it work financially.

Would be nice if they sent an email out to those interested, just to fill the roster spots. Its a once if a life time opportunity. I would have gone in a heart beat.

Male 25-29

Come to Tucson for Duathlon nationals next year. Low turnout = almost a guarenteed spot.

I qualified for Team USA, but didn't go to London. Many other financial priorites that I felt were better investements than going to France and underrepresenting the US on a world stage.

That is the best part about burlington is that I am in NY. Just a long weekend trip.

Why do you feel is it such a under representing event for the US?  I would be so amped to rep USA.

What is the result of winning age group at worlds?

I feel that I personally would be. My times for a 5k run, 35k bike, 5k run mirrored those of the people competing internationally... only they were running two 10k's instead!! I'd like to race if a qualified - and when they take 18 people, and only 10 show up in my age group, I don't feel like I "qualified". I only raced at Du Nationals because they were in town

However, if I were more into the venue, I'd consider. Nancy, France (where du's were) isn't high on my list of places to visit, and I was already flying to 3 Rev3 events and to Ireland in 2012.

I think, if you win, you just get an award and bragging rights?

Also, I believe 2013 Tri Nationals are moving away from Burlington. The National Championship Races rotate venues every 2 years, usually.

I qualified for Team USA too... it was in the sprint for London 2013 and part of me feels like a fraud because well, yeah, I don't really feel like I "qualified."  My age group was pretty small and basically only like 8-10 people in my AG who did the sprint did NOT qualify, and I was towards the bottom of qualifying.  I took the second to last spot.  That said, well, it seems that it would be quite the awesome opportunity be repping the US of A (there's even a parade of nations!), so yeah, I think I'm gonna take it!  Plus, doing the race on the same course as the Olympics seems pretty awesome as well... Although technically I have until next summer to decide, because that's when the race entry is due and you officially become a member of Team USA.

Congrats - and I'd jump at the chance to race on the same course as the Olympics! That is where the venue would definitely trump anything else

I think they do offer the spots because my friend is representing Australia and she was shocked that she qualified in the 45-49 Sprint but they said she got in for just competing in every tri last season, some had turned it down.  Great opportunity as we're only 4 hours flight away.  She's torn though coz she's actually a New Zealander...living in Australia with dual nationality.  I'm going to watch YAY!  Got a few swim squaddies over there too.

Qualifying standards vary by country.  In the US, top 18 automatically qualify, rolling down to 25.
