getting their ears pierced? How do you all feel about that. Do girls mind it, do guys mind it? Do you even care?

I am not talking about the crazy piercings and giant ear lobe stretching stuff either, just a single piercing in each earlobe.

I've my left one pierced for 22 years and my right one for 15 years.  No big deal.  Who cares.

I am curious why you say "no"

Would you care to Elaborate at all? I respect your opinion but am just curious why you think that. (I would ask the same thing if you just said "yes" as well)

Doesn't bother me a bit.  I wanted to get my ear pierced when I was a teenager but never did.  The desire has passed and I have no need/desire to get it done now.

I think as a society it's very common for guys to have ears pierced and it's not abnormal to see a business executive or judge with a pierced ear.  I also think piercings are a lot less permanent than things like tattoos so I almost encourage face/nose/ear piercings over tattoo's when kids are wanting to express themselves.  If/when they grow out of it they simply remove them and let it grow shut.  Not quite as easy with a tattoo.

I personally don't like the ear lobe stretching stuff, but more because it looks like it would hurt and it deforms a part of the body.  It doesn't bother me per se, but it's more of an "ouch" type of thought I get when I see it.

Seems like a fad that went with sport mullets and Swatches, but to each his own. I do my own oddball stuff.

yea I do not pay attention to fads or what popular or trendy. It was just something that randomly came up in conversation with my wife while we were shopping earlier this week. It is something I am considering just for fun but wanted to check with people who may actually be more aware of things than I am.

If I heard an overwhelming consensus that it was crazy I might think about it more...we'll see what happens this weekend I guess.

My 8-yr-old son asked me about it...

"Why would that guy have an earring?"
"Well, it's a statement about who they are.  Kind of like a tattoo.  It's OK if they like it and want to make that statement."
"So their statement is, 'I want to look like half a girl?'"

Laughing

I don't artificially alter my body for anything that isn't necessary to keep me alive (something that hasn't been needed yet).....never will.  It's NOT a religious thing....it's a respect for my body thing....it takes really good care of me, so I don't stick holes in it. Laughing

Just to be clear...I don't care at all what others do to their bodies or even why.  I'm good with what I've got....don't feel the need to "accessorize".

Nope, just going retro.  Like 1500's retro.  Look it up.  Interesting read.

It wasn't ALWAYS for women.

My father, who is 56, recently got his ear pierced, shaved his head, and grew a goatee. My mom's ok with it, so we're all ok with it. Go figure.

I think it makes guys look like they're trying be a pirate or in a boy band. I don't care if someone wants to look like that, but I will likely make a joke about it if I know them.

Nope, just not my thing. If you wanna do it, go ahead. In the list of my life concerns, ear piercing is fairly low.

I have no problem with it, and had my one left ear pierced for about 3 or 4 years when I was in my early 20s.

The quoted comment, however, I disagree with.  It is fairly common in society, but its a stretch to say that it is normal to see executives or judges with a pierced ear.

I got my upper ear pierced toward the end of high school. Was at the mall and said what the hell and did it. Kept it clear through college. Most of the time didn't really even notice it, my hair was longer then too.

Took it out to go to a job interview after college and never put it back in. It is all sealed up now although I can still feel the scar tissue in the ear.

Don't regret it. Don't think I would do it now, don't see a reason. I have considered getting a tattoo recently but haven't thought of anything good enough to make permanent.

In my family shaving your ears does not start until you are at least 35 -  then it is a twice a week job
