I have a Madonna t-shirt.  Won't wear it until I have done her.

OK lighten up folks.  scoring perfect SAT's is tough too...you don't see people getting SAT tats.

How about 1%'er tats for the rich crowd?

I'm sure the people at WTC are laughing their rich off at people who get Mdot tats.  Customers are paying good money to advertise the WTC brand.  Nike is so jealous that so few people get Nike tats.

yes Ironman is tough.  do you need to tell everyone you finished? ok,  buy a bunch of shirts and wear them every day.  the Mdot tat is just a passive aggressive way of saying "look at me but i'm pretending that the tat is really for me but i want every to see it and comment on it."

Climbing Everest is way harder than Ironman.  Do most sumitters get a tat of the mountain?  I'm thinking not.

Rant probably over.

I have done a 70.3 and could not imagine pooping my shorts on purpose for a better time. I couldn't even pee myself on the bike for a better time. Had to pull over and go behind a tree. All to their own though! Also, I do think that getting the tat is a bit premature. dan

Enjoy your tat. Forget what everyone else says. It's just a body marking and just like any other tat. If it makes you happy, more power to you!

Let me ask you this... are you in the Marines?  If no, would you tattoo yourself with the Marines Eagle, Globe, and Anchor logo?

Are you a SEAL?  If not, would you tattoo yourself with the SEAL crest?

Are you qualified in submarines?  If not, would you tattoo yourself with the Submarine Warfare Specialist Dolfins?

I'd bet you wouldn't do any of these; yet an M-Dot is ok?  I say it is not ok, and you are totally in the wrong.

yeah, and are you a professional athlete, if not, would you tattoo yourself with the logo for a professional sports time. Right. Didn't think so....

It is your body to do what you want with it.  Though you will feel awfully foolish if you DNF and people ask you which one you completed.

On a similar note though, what are peoples thoughts on completing the 140.6 on a non-ironman brand race and getting an M-dot tattoo?

Yes.

It's like calling yourself a doctor in high school.

NOT exactly, See i know i'm going to complete this ironman, your comparison to a doctor is just so far off because that requires schooling and stuff and you can't train to do that..

Perfect analogy mrbeachbum!

As a physician and triathlete (not IM) I can't tell you how many times I hear "I was going to be a dermatologist or X type of doctor.....". As if it's just a simple decision to become a doctor.

It definitely took more than "schooling and stuff" to get where I am. Try giving up your 20's, moving all over the country for school and residency, and being $300k in debt.

You definitely jumped the gun on the Mdot tattoo! I hope you finish your race, troll.....

Why do you think you know the motivation of everyone who gets a tattoo? I'm planning on getting an Mdot. I want people to know I finished because I'm a normal, everyday person with a job and a life. I'm not a pro. I don't train 30 hours a week. I'm not super athletically gifted. I got cut from every sports team in high school. But I had a dream, and I worked hard, and I did it, even though it seemed to be impossible.

I was inspired to do an Ironman when I heard the story of someone who was a very normal, average Joe and he completed one. That's what I want to do for others.

would you get the tattoo of the ford logo on your body? how about the apple logo? how about a nike swoosh?

that's exactly what the Mdot has become. it's a company logo.

i thought about getting one. then i finished the race with a 12:48 with only 16 weeks of training and i thought. eh. it was hard, but not that hard.

honestly, you did the race, you know what you put in to get it. no need to show it off to the world. get an mdot hat, you can take that off whenever you want.

getting the mdot before the race is just dumb imho. but whatever, better finish the race buddy!

We need more governmental regulation of who can get tats. There should be solid written guidelines on what emotions are allowed to allow tats. Maybe a panel for discussions and then committee decisions to give permission. Of course those approved could get funding for said tats.

For you.

Doesn't mean it's "hard, but not that hard" to finish in 12:48 for everyone.

Some of us have to work our a$$es off for what we have. Give us a little credit.

When I finish my Ironman I'm getting this for a tattoo......because I can if I want to.  I can't believe anyone cares what someone puts on their body.

Are you qualified in submarines?  If not, would you tattoo yourself with the Submarine Warfare Specialist Dolfins?

No self-respecting human would get THAT tattoo.

I completed IMFL 2011 and was about 2 weeks after I had my Mdot Tat on my calf.  I was a right of passage for me as it represents my 1st one that I finished and that it was the official Florida 2011.

I placed it in position with the thought of adding the official race and year for the next and the next and so on.

Proud of it as i had never had a Tat before and always said this would be my first.

So. Train for it, complete it/finish it and then perminently Brand yourself with it.

I totally agree. More government regulation. Really though I would not get a tat before a race. I have considered getting the Mdot after I complete IMAZ this year. But I really have a hard time showing off or bragging that much. I also agree with others that the MDot is just a company logo. It is to commercial which kind of disappoints me. I have always dreamt of completing an IM when I was younger. I always loved and still enjoy watching the Kona Championships on NBC. I really think I just want a reason to get another tattoo....if I do it won't we an Mdot rather something tri related with 140.6 tied in. Jkr

I thought that also before every one of my 3 DNF's in my 9 Ironman starts.  But I wish you luck just the same.
