Subject: Brand New Trainer Tire Gunk

I just put a new trainer tire on my bike. Hurricane Sandy's gonna keep me inside for a week of rain so I figure, may as well put the tire on.

It's my first trainer, my first training tire. I rode briefly on my own tire and there were no problems. I rode for 2 minutes on the new training tire and it's a) louder b) leaving a bunch of gunk on my trainer c) spraying my back wall with bits of gunk.

Is this to be expected with new training tires and it will go away with a little bit more wear? Or will I be forever cleaning this gunk off my trainer?

Also, I thought trainer tires were supposed to be quieter. Again, is this just because it's brand new and there's a little bit of wear that needs to take place? There are fine seams that look like they'll be worn down soon.

It's a Tacx trainer tire, if you need to know that info. Thanks!

You're describing pretty much what to expect from a standard road tire and what a trainer tire supposed to solve... I have experience with Tacx trainer tire, only Continental Home Trainer that's definitely not doing all that!!!
