I felt the same way when I registered for IMFL, when you start getting into the training in seems easier to wrap your head around doing a full.

A little late to talk you off the ledge now - that should have been done before you signed up!

You'll be fine.  I think most people have a similar reaction right after they hit the final submit button.

The will be my first full too!

I've heard its a pretty tough course, but its within driving distance, so its the one I'll be doing.  The wife and I are turning IM California 70.3 into a mini-vacation, so I choose to do the full closer to home.

From your race report on B2B, which you crushed, I think you'll be fine.  I've got a lot more work to do than you, lets put it that way .  Best of luck training!

I know the feeling...kinda. I did the lottery this year for Kona so I need to complete a validated race between January and August. That means I have to complete and IM branded even either HIM or IM. I just started doing olympic distance..signing up for the Vineman 70.3 tomorrow and I am a littl scared, nervous, and wondering what the heck I am doing!

Find a training plan that you can trust and then trust the plan.  Follow the plan as much as practical while recognizing that the canned plans don't take into account your specific situation (family demands, fitness, etc.).  If you can hit 80% of the training, you can have a good race as long as your race strategy is supported by your actual training.

I felt hideous after signing up for IM Tremblant - aftera coupele of weeks the feeling goes away and you start thinking about how you will train, how you will fit it into your life without getting divorced etc !

I spent about a month looking into training program's, coaches, training groups. I bought the book Be Iron Fit by Don Fink and read it cover to cover - its a really positive book that gives you the sense that you really Can do this - good luck and congratulations on hitting the submit button!

A lot of us have that feeling when we first register and make it official.

As it's been said, now you've just got to follow a plan, and show up on race day to toe the line.

The training is what's important, the race is just the icing on the cake.

Good luck!

Good luck on the journey.

For ME, the work to get there is not a lot of fun.  Especially the long rides and runs...  I don't get particular joy out of 5-6 lonely hours on the bike or 3 hours on my feet running.

BUT, the satisfaction you get from finishing?  Is WELLl worth the effort.  Try to remember that if training gets you down.

(unless you are the rare person that get's a kick out of weekly 5-6 hour rides)

Yup...you just screwed yourself up.  You're not going to be ready for Louisville since it will be your first...so I suggest signing up for another IM before it so you can be better prepared.

Train on hills, do hill repeats and get your nutrition down. You get those two and you will be fine. The hills are not that terrible just 80 or so miles of them. Up and Down Up and Down. Having your nutrition down is so important because te bike and heat will drain you. Look into Infinit if you haven't already.

Thanks for the advice.  One reason I signed up for Louisville is that my home terrain and conditions are very similar.  I live in the foothills of SC so we are at the base of the Appalachian mountains.  This means we don't have any flat bike routes.  If anyone has done REV3 Anderson then they have ridden the roads I ride every day.  The summer here is also very hot so I will have plenty of time to perfect my nutrition in 95 degree heat with 80-100% humidity.

I should have known by your screen name. I'm just south of you in Columbia. You are in a great place to simulate Louisville. Although, one of the guys that did Louisville with us this year has done Cour de Lene, Lake Placid and Florida. He is from Anderson and has similar terrain and conditions as you, he finished at @ 11pm due to conditions of the bike course. He is a strong biker. Just keep in mind how it can be. Also look up The four keys to Ironman Louisville on Youtube. Follow them and you will finish strong.

I bought the Spinervals DVD Louisville course ride along with Coach Troy last year for my winter trainer sessions. Not sure if it helped or not, but I felt like I recognized most of the course. It is yours if you want it. Just pass it along to someone else next year in the same situation. PM me your address if you want it.
