Im looking at buying a new pair of running shoes. Just wondering how most people break them in. Slowly? Or to you just lace up and carry on as normal?

I don't know if it is right or wrong, but my last two pair I've just laced 'em up with some LockLaces and then carried on as normal.

If they're fairly similar to what you already wear then don't worry about it too much.  But if you're changing drastically (i.e; stablilty shoe to a pure minimal shoe) gradually ease it in to your training schedule.  And if the new shoes happen to be Newton's, be extra conservative r you will encounter some soreness.  Good luck!

Lace up and carry on as normal. From talking with my running store guy, who I trust, shoes these days are made from materials that do not really have a "break in" period like they used to. It's never been an issue for me.

Thanks!

No they are not newtons, but I'm most likely going with a different brand. They will be a similar style shoe. I also have orthotics to correct a knee alignment problem as well.

I run as far and as fast in them as soon as possible. Maybe not the first run but definitly the second.

I usually run with shoes that have similar characteristics (stability, substantial heel-toe offset, lightweight) but have tried many brands.  Some seem to work for me and some do not.  Not sure why I don't just leave well enough alone.

If I'm purchasing the exact brand/model, I'll still limit my first run to 4 or 5 miles.  I had a pair of new shoes that had defective stitching on the tongue and it just shredded the top of my foot.  I was on an out and back long run.  Big mistake.

Fortunately, my daughter has the same size foot as me so has been well supplied with the shoes that didn't work for me.

I just lace 'em up and go.

I do agree with the above advice of easing into any shoes that are a drastically different style.

Only thing I'd advise against is racing in a brand new shoe, or going for a P.B. distance or time.  Wait until you see how your feet like them.

Lace'm up and go.

If they don't feel good from the start...you bought the wrong pair.
