So ... Subaru and MSC have posted their 2013 schedules, and nobody's claimed July 21.  I'm guessing that will be Toronto Triathlon Festival?

MSC has Belwood Tri weekend booked for that weekend. Should be interesting to see how Toronto Tri Festival is run this year however.

Thinking of doing the Toronto tri festival race in 2013. Anyone comment on the race you did it last year.

sorry!
as for commenting on last year's event...
the comments on my next race are COMPLETELY accurate.

1) not enough food post-race
2) the mandatory briefing session the day before the event was a bit unnecessary, but didn't bother me much
3) the organization of the triathlon itself was STELLAR.
- assigned spots in transition (racks were marked according to bib #)
- AMAZING volunteers
- i was a bit wary of the swim (in lake ontario) but it was shockingly clean & clear and the step they constructed out of the lake back onto shore was good (but without the volunteers helping us out, i probably would have face-planted!)
- the run out of  & then back into transition with your bike is PRECARIOUS! (i.e. up a fairly steep concrete incline-- would be deadly if it was at all slippery/rainy!!)
& the run course was a pain (crowded with random runners, walkers & rollerbladers on the course, some helping themselves @ aid stations) AND poor signage marking where you were on the course

but all in all, a FANTASTIC event
(criticism aside)
i'd do it again in a second.
the novelty of taking over city streets like that won't wear off for me anytime soon

MSC has Belwood Tri weekend booked for that weekend.

How did I miss that?

Anyway, I wouldn't necessary trust the mynextrace date until I see something on TTF's web site.

I did the TTF Sprint last year and really enjoyed the course, except for the ramp you have to climb and descend, with your bike, in and out of transition, and except for the run course being open to the public and quite busy with cyclists and jogging strollers by the time I got onto it.  In terms of it being a "festival", I think the atmosphere after the MSC give-it-a-tri races I was in was more festive, but perhaps I was under the influence of delicious Hero Burgers at those races.  (Seriously, TTF, get some good food sponsors.)

Also, as you might guess from my avatar, I though the race photographers at TTF did an excellent job.  They got good pics of me coming out of the water (no bib # visible, but the photo is at the timing mat exiting the lake, so simple enough to identify swimmers by chip time), at two different spots on the bike course, coming back into transition, and at two different spots on the run course, AND at the finish.  It was an easy choice to buy the race pics.

And ... I guessed right.  TTF's web site now consists of the date, and pretty much nothing else.

Looks like you were looking at our 2012 Schedule. Bellwood will be on the July 20/21. We hope to see you there.

Sorry, John - TTF is 10km from my home and Bellwood is 100 km - it's a convenience thing.  I hope you have a great race, though, and I'll see you at Binbrook and Toronto Island.

I thought the TTF was well run, overall.

The briefing the day before was a waste of a trip, but they made it a requirement, blaming it on one of the related triathlon governing bodies. If they have that again I'll skip it.

While the water quality and ingress/egress on the swim were excellent, the course was not. they had a 90 degree turn about 50m into the course, worse swimming bottleneck I've ever seen since everyone hit it at the same time.

The bike course was the best I've ever seen. Pancake flat aside from the ramp that has been mentioned (made the mistake of leaving bike shoes on, an error to remember). Getting to ride the Gardiner was fantastic.

The run course had a fair number of strollers/pedestrians/joggers/dogs which made it far from ideal - you had to stay sharp, people with headphone will walk in front of you without looking.

Food afterwards was disappointing.

Overall, though, I liked it. If they can learn from their first year, as I'm sure they will, it will be a solid event this year. Wondering if it will continue after the Pan Am Games is over, however.

I am planning on doing the TTF race too.

I volunteered last year (Reg. Desk and Bike Course) because I'd done a small try-a-tri two weeks before and loved it. Figured volunteering for a bigger race would be a good way to see if I was out to lunch thinking I could do it.

I was absolutely astounded by how nice everyone was - from the other volunteers (most with tri experience they were willing to share) to the racers who went out of their way to say thanks. Don't think I've ever been thanked so much in my life (Especially by people zooming by on bikes).

Happy to say volunteering convinced me I should be okay entering the race next year. I'll hopefully be less intimidated having seen the "behind the scenes" view.

Also planning on doing a good number of the Windsor-Essex County races, since my folks live down there. Good excuse to visit.

I'll be running the OLY at Bluewater that weekend.  Great race, all flat and great volunteers.
