I came upon beginner-triathlete looking for a few articles on swimming, and I have to tell you this site totally rocks.

Started out in November last year with an awesome personal trainer and no other goal than to just lose a few lbs. He's a triathlete, and one of my life goals was to do a triathlon but I thought that was far out of reach. As I started hitting plateaus we began to crosstrain, including a not so fun introduction to the pool and endurance swimming. I finished my first sprint triathlon ever in April about mid-pack, which surprised even me. I also lost 60lbs along the way and feel like a totally new person.

It's much harder since my PT has moved away, to keep pushing myself to do better. My second sprint triathlon at the first of the month was a testament to that. Although I finished about mid-pack again…. my swimming really hurt my time (because I let up on my swim training). I've got 3 more sprints planned for the summer so we'll see how much I can improve that swim time.

I do enjoy the sport though, it's so much fun. The camaraderie is awesome too!

Cheers

Thanks for the welcomes, glad to see another peach-stater too!

I'm planning on doing:
The Carrollton Tri (7/18)
Tri-Peachtree City (8/28)
and The Hilton Head Suntrust Tri (9/11)

Know of any other really good sprints in Georgia?

Congratulations on your achievement. That is just awesome.

I'm also from Georgia (Marietta) and plan on participating in some of the same events. What I've been disappointed by here is the lack of an organized "tri club". You are right, this forum is great, its been a fantastic resource. However, I wish there was an organized group that got together to train. I have a feeling that the comraderie would be of great benefit to the training and make this a lot more fun.

If you ever want to train or trade advice, please don't hesitate to contact me!

I've been training with a guy here at work, but he is a newlywed and his heart just isn't in it. He's loves the tri but hates the training if you know what I mean.

There is a club in Atlanta (http://www.tri-atlanta.org/), that I've thought about trying out. They do brick workouts every wednesday over on Columns drive (by the Hooch). I'm still a little intimidated by working out with the ironman athletes though, so I haven't given it a go just yet.

Cheers

Hey fellow Georgian,

Are you (or any other Georgians here) also considering the High Falls tri in Jackson, GA the week after the tri PTC? That will be my first!

Thanks,
tribesman
