Subject: Missing last long bike an issue before IM?
Sorry to ask another taper question. Here is my problem. I'm scheduled to start my 3 week taper today for my first IM on December 1st. Last week, I didn't have the time to get my final 6 hour bike/1 hour run from Fink's plan. I have about 3 rides at 100 miles or more. A 90 miler and a couple of 80 milers all in the last 6 weeks or so. (1 long ride a week). I was going to try and make up the work out tomorrow, but I've been having pain in my left knee, which at times forces me stop pedaling for a bit. Usually it goes away after awhile if I ease up. I did recently change my seat, and don't have an appointment with my fitter until next week. Will that last long brick be an issue if I miss it? I did add a couple of extra weeks during Fink's peak phase just to get me more miles. I'm really concerned about not getting another 100 miles in and trying to run long afterwards, but I'm also concerned about aggravating my knee and ruining my taper. Sorry for the lengthy question. All advice welcome. Thanks.

Dont fret over it.  You will be fine with the base you built.  I did four 100 miles rides for Florida and 3 for Lake Placid.  I was fine in both.

One workout won't make or break your day.  Good luck on the IM

Focus on what you can control, let go of what you can't-it will be fine. I finished my first with a disastrous last 5 weeks

Trust your training. This is most certainly not the only ride you've done, so missing one won't make a difference. Just take the time to make sure you take care of that knee and then have a great IM!

x2. I wouldn't sweat it.

And the hidden lesson here is to not freak out when things don't go according to plan. They never do, it's an IM.

Adjust, smile, git 'er done.

Skip the ride, fix the knee.  You've already done the work!  Enjoy the IM and good luck!

I'd be more concerned about the last minute seat adjustment over the long ride.  How many of those long rides do you have on the new seat?  What will the fitter do to the new seat position next week and will you have time to adjust to the new seat/position with a long ride?

Why the change?  Now is NOT the time to tweek things unless you have really had problems on the long rides.  You don't have time to adapt muscles to the new position and risk worse results doing this late in the training.

A couple 100-mile rides should be sufficient to finish the IM, don't sweat whether you did 3 instead of 4 of them.

I got the new Adamo road a few months back and after some tweaking it feels relatively good. What happened was my seat was slowly getting lower and lower for the last month or so due to a loose screw. Once I noticed it, I tried to raise it back up, but wasn't exactly sure where to put it. Not sure if this is the cause of the knee pain, but fitter said he could get me back to right spot. Maybe taper and ice will help as well.
