Hi all, I have a friends wife that is thinking about the Tour De France trainer for her husband for xmas. I'm looking for recommendations on it.  Thanks

I was interested in this a while back.  After some on-line searches of reviews, I was totally scared away!  They came out with an new version that fixed some of the problems, but reviews on that one were still troublesome.  Do a search on-line for reviews (also see Amazon), and for fun compare it to the reviews on the Pro Form site.

If he already has a bike, have her get him a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine bike trainer.  I think the general consensus is that it's much better to ride on your own bike than on something like this.

or a CompuTrainer (or new KICKR) if you're in that price range...

If they have a bike then this is ten time the machine that the TdF machine is.  Computrainer is ten year old technology (although with its huge share of fans).

KICKR looks promising although not available for a couple months.

A friend of mine has one. He loves what it can do. When he bought it they warned him that if it broke it would do it within a few weeks and be fixed on warranty. Well, it broke within a month (crank stripped). They took it back and are getting it repaired. He negotiated a three year warranty and in retrospect he is glad he did.Dave
