Subject: I got a bike tool kit
My recent acquisition of a disc wheel cover has forced me recognize my shortcomings as a mechanic. I have been at this for almost 5 years and outside of changing a tire and cleaning the chain, I have no capacity to repair and maintain my bike. I am notorious for taking my bike to the shop for the simplest things (install a water bottle cage. Since we moved our access to bike shops is limited and I have to rely on my wife or my buddy for mechanical assistance. I have been the gopher while while my friend has torn down and built up a bike but I only do what I am told and everything I do is closely supervised.

Anyway, after helping my friend put on and take off my disc wheel cover a couple times I decided its time for me to become more mechanical. I got my tool kit in yesterday and beginning next week I am going to learn to use them.

i've got a little allen key and phillips head screw driver kit, and can change my saddle, add drinks bottles, change pedals and re-attach my wheel (badly) - as for changing the actual tire/fix apuncture - haha! no idea

I'm lucky, when I was younger I use to build bikes at Toys 'R' Us, I know totally different kind of bikes then what we ride, but it gives you the basics.  The one thing I would like is an allen key tool.  Right now I just carry a few of them in a rubberband

The favorite tools of most "auto" mechanics that tinker on old cars...

seriously, a good set of allen wrenches, screwdrivers, and needle nose plyers can get you the furthest. all can be had at sears or you can pay big $$ and get the lbs tools.
