Okay so i'm reading about how qualifying works for vegas as a NON ELITE. It says to "top age groupers' but it doesn't say THE TOP. Just says TOP. Typically how does this work? The #1 of each age group or like the top 2-3? What's the standard practice of this? Thanks.

Every IM 70.3 race has a number of slots available. Most of them will be 30. A few will be more. Every age group gets 1 spot for sure. Additional slots depend on how many are left over and are distributed by the age group's size relative to that of the entire field. So bigger age-groups get more slots.

Age group winner gets a slot. If there are say 3 slots, the fastest 3 get the slot. They don't have to take them. If they don't, then they roll-down to the next fastest person in that age-group. The people who earn spots have to elect to take them. Done some time after the race finishes, but before the awards start (they'll say a time). At awards/roll-down, any slots not taken by the fastest will be awarded to the next fastest people who want them. This is the "roll-down" part.

Have your credit card ready if your anywhere near the top, seems like the 70.3 slots often roll down quite far, while The IM races have 50 slots and it's more like the top 3 who get a slot, often 4th place is shut out as Kona spots are Golden and don't roll down much.
