Subject: RPE Commuter Bike vs Tri Bike

Right now I've got a commuter bike. I'll have a road or tri bike come late spring but now I'm training on a Trek 7.3 and I have a question of distance vs RPE/Time.

Because my commuter bike is less efficient it takes more energy to cover a mile than it would on a road or tri bike. Should I take this into consideration when training? For example, instead of doing a 30 miler on a tri bike in 1:52 (16 MPH, a figure I just made up - not sure what an average training pace actually is) would I net approximately the same result if I rode 1:52 on my Trek using an RPE appropriate for a basic training ride and net, say, 24 miles?* or should I base my training strickly on mileage.

*Note - I don't have concrete numbers, I just placed a wild guess as to how much slower a ride would be on a commuter bike vs a tri or road bike.

It always feel like I am working so much harder on my hybrid bike than on my roadie that I can't even begin to compare the two.  Just ride hard, ride often and you'll be fine.
