Subject: RE: Groupsets help Personally, nothing hampers my enjoyment more on a bike than weak and sloppy shifting. So I completely understand what you are saying about wanting to upgrade. However, I wouldn't look at it as getting a new groupset to use with a future tt bike, especially since you say the tt bike is a couple of years out. In stead I would look at increasing my enjoyment on my current bike and worry about the tt bike when it's time (this is really true because improvements come out every year and the prices continue to come down). You can get really good deals on 105 components in the used market because many buy nice frames with 105 and then as they save $$ they want to set up to Ultegra and sell their 105. Ultegra definitely shifts better than 105 but the cost set up is quite a bit. IMO stepping up to 105 from Sora or Tiagra is a worth while performance increase. Depending on your current frame and components, to get the best bang for your buck, I would be looking at getting 105 sti shifters, ultegra RD, 105 FD, and 105 crank. Now that said look around, because with patience you can find some great deals in the used market that will allow you get a little better components (i.e. ultegra sti shifters, etc. ). |
