Subject: Are diet soft drinks bad for you?
I've been making some big changes in my diet and as part of the changes my wife suggested cutting out diet soft drinks. I can see cutting back (they are free at work and I was drinking too many) but am not sure why cutting them out all together would be helpful. I asked my wife and she said "I don't know, exactly, there's just a lot of junk in there you don't need." I'm sure this is true, but is it hurting anything, or just not helping anything? Many thanks.

How many are you drinking daily?

It's all about moderation. You probably don't have to cut them out completely, but if you're drinking eight a day, then you probably need to switch a few of those for water, which is really the best thing for you anyway. Again, moderation.

Found this http://diet.ivillage.com/issues/isnacks/0,,m7c,00.html Maybe it'll help!

thanks, I'm new and had never been in the weightloss forum before until after I posted this question and just saw there's a thread in there with similar good advice.

I would guess I was up around 4 a day and am now between none 0 and 2, and hydrating well. I'm going to put that on the back burner of things to worry about and keep focusing on diet and exercise.

When I was drinking 3 or 4 a day, I'd get headaches. For some reason, about a month ago I decided to cut out all soda's, & now don't even miss it

I don't drink diet soda every day, but on the other hand, it's a really nice treat once or twice a week.  I don't see any problems with you drinking a couple a day, if you see an issue you can always cut them out later right?

On the spectrum of things to worry about, this comes in pretty low.  I think that one or two a day isn't going to hurt you at all.

You will find someone who will find a flaw with every product on the market regardless of the product.

I drink diet soda every day. I love diet soda. It is refreshing. It tastes great and until a legit scientific source tells me something to the contrary I will continue to believe it is safe. By legit I mean the likes of Lancet or JAMA not something like a website of "Why Artificial Sweetners are Killing you and the government is covering it up".

I agree with Wookie.  I've never seen any scientific research that indicates that aspartame is really bad for you.  I drink diet soda and try to keep it in moderation and drink lots of water too.  I'm not sure what the benefit to cutting them completely out of your diet is.
