Hello! I am a 51 y/o female totally out of shape.....An acquaintance of mine was telling me about her sister in law who at the age of 52, decided to re-invent herself and became a triathlete! For some reason this has totally hooked me, but I don't know what to do or how to get started.
I live in Atlanta, Ga......
This is a wonderful site.....wow!
Thanks for reading!

Sandy,

Welcome from a fellow Atlantan. You might consider joining the local Atlanta Tri Club. I believe the website is www.tri-atlanta.com or something like that. I'll look it up for you. I also recommend you do a lot of reading, as I did 6 weeks ago (and continue to do), regarding all the various tips and techniques for each of the swim, bike and run events.

Also, I would set incremental goals for yourself that help you achieve the end result of completing a triathlon. Enjoy, this is a great community here and the folks are willing to answer all your questions.

Good luck.

Hi Sandey:

Welcome from another Georgian

I know when I first started out I felt very nervous about getting out there and competeing. I think it's common. No worries though, you'll find it's a very friendly sport and most triathletes won't hesitate to offer advice or answer questions for you. Especially this forum, these guys are great.

They are holding a women's sprint triathlon in Acworth in early August. In conjunction with this, training clinics are being held. The next one is July 18 at REI. I think that would be a great jumping off point for you. You can talk to other women who are triathletes and probably get tons of training tips. I'm definitely going.

Hey Ron!
At this point just staying upright and breathing is my first goal......and staying motivated. For me this is the hardest part. I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired.
