Subject: Calorie Count: Garmin vs. Treadmill

I'm trying to figure out which is more accurate on my calorie count.  Wearing my Garmin 910XT HR monitor, which knows my weight and heart rate, on the treadmill it registers about 750 calories for my 60 minute run this morning.  The treadmill which knows my pace and weight but not my heart rate registers about 450 calories.  300 calories is a big difference.

Anyone have an idea of which would be more accurate?   Thanks!

I would go with the Garmin.

What distance did you cover in the 60 mins?

Neither are probably very accurate. Are you using the garmin footpod that will let the watch know your pace better and probably get you a more accurate measure?

You can't avoid the distance.

I would say your garmin is correct* if you weigh 250 or more, and the treadmill is correct* if you weigh 150 or less.

*By "correct" I mean, "In the ballpark."  There's a lot more to it than weight and distance, but those are the two largest factors.
