Subject: Charity race kit

So I wanted to support my favorite charity (Masskickers (brain tumor awareness)) for my ironman.  I looked into having a race kit made and it seems really expensive.

Is this normal:

You pick your own gear and ship it to the printing company.  I like Desoto so I would be wearing thier shorts and top (they also recommended the printer), but the printing costs are $195 for one color, 2 logos, and 5 placments of logo on gear.

It just seems crazy the printing will cost me almost more than the clothes it will be on and it won't even be in more than one color.

Anyone have any advice or experince with this not as a large group.  Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Chris

Jeez, that does sound like a lot of money but no idea if it is appropriate.  A D Soto kit is nice and expensive and what if you don't like how it looks.  Maybe get a visor made by HeadSweats or SweatVac and give the balance to the charity?

The Champ-sys kits are not as nice as a De Soto kit but they are not that crummy either, so this is a decent option.  You could just have a race top made and still use your De Soto shorts.

I'm not the best versed in the custom kit department, but I do know that there are several manufacturers that are able to do the custom printing as you order it.

It will be a bit expensive, especially being an order of one, but I think it would be quite a bit cheaper than paying full price for a kit and then $195 on top of it.

I like the just buy a top idea.  I'm pretty attached to my Desoto shorts.  I don't want to sound cheap or lazy, but I don't want to do too much experimenting with different brands.  I've grown attached to the Desoto Riviera shorts for my half ironmans so I would ike to stick to those for my first full.  I'm not attached to the tops so that isn't a big deal.

If you can get multiple orders the costs goes down since the upfront cost is usually a "setup fee" for them to configure the printers and such. I would contact them and see if they do any discounts for a non-profit.

I love my personalized Kiwami suit that I wore for my IM last month. Great quality and great price.
