Subject: HED 3 rear or disc cover?
So I've finally purchased a set of HED 3 wheels. My original plan was to get an H3 front and disc cover rear but ended up getting a set. They're advertised as the fastest non disc option but what does that mean? How much would be gained by adding a disc cover onto a Felt box rim over using the H3 rear in races? Just trying to decide if it's worth purchasing the disc cover or not.

My opinion sell the rear and buy a disc wheel. I run and HED3c front and Zipp Disc in the rear and absolutely best set up I have ever run. Great for every condition

As durable as they are I'll probably keep the rear and train in them. Guess I'll get the disc cover to race with and hopefully a real disc by IMFL

A standard OEM rear wheel (like your felt) with a cover is probably going to run around 1400 grams.  A HED 3 clincher weighs 1020 (and the tubular weighs 820 - not sure which one you have).  So there is a little bit of a weight difference there, but this would only come into play if you race had a lot of climbing (like IM St. George).  The disc should be faster is something flat like IM Florida.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend selling the H3 for three reasons. 1) I don't think the marked for a rear only Hed 3 is great (people either want just the front or both). 2) Like I mentioned, in really hilly races, the Hed 3 may be more ideal. 3) Some races don't allow a disc wheel, thus making the Hed 3 the fastest rear wheel.
