Subject: What is your favorite race in Iowa?

Hi everyone, 

Just seeing what peoples thoughts are as to what your favorite race in Iowa is.  It has to be a current race however.  Looking for some gem's that might not be super popular.

My first was Bluff Creek last year and it was small enough that it wasn't overwhelming for a first timer. I really enjoyed it and will do it again this year. They did move the date to later in the year though.

Bix 7 has always been a fun race. Also the Quad Cities triathlon is a great event.

Jim,  Bluff Creek is a great race.  The race director is very passionate about his races and it shows with  how the race is run. 

The race has been moved to August 11 due to his spring wedding.  Hope to see you there!

The Bix is something I have always wanted to experience.  It's on the bucket list!

I have also heard great things about the QC Tri.

If your looking for a run only race then I would suggest the Dam to Dam. For tri's the Iowa Games Sprint Tri is a great one to cut your teeth on and just have a good time.

There are three that I put on my schedule every year!!!

May:  Siouxperman Sprint Triathlon in Sioux Center Iowa.  Indoor 300 yard, about 16 mile bike and 5K.  Well run with a nice meal after and always a cool shirt.

July:  Okoboji.  1,000 yard lake swim.  18 mile bike.  5 mile run.  once again, very well run.  Bike can be a little tricky since they don't close the roads and its the summer time in Boji.  Lots of people.  Plus, you finish on the boardwalk and tons of people come out for the race.  They do the Half and full Marathon that day too!

Sept:  HyVee.  Absolute must do if you want to experience the joys of a large event.  The swim start is a time trial start by age group.  I think 8 of us entered the water at a time every 5 seconds or so.  It went really fast and there was some bumping but mostly spread out.

Bix, probably.

I have always loved On The Roads, as well. The 8k is pretty flat and fast, but the half is a bit nastier.
