Aaahhhhh!!! Just added the total up so far from the ring all the way to the honeymoon.

No financing though so that's a good thing.

I was lucky...  In grad school with barely two nickels to rub together.  I went 'old school' and asked Amy's dad for permission.  ("Awwww, what a cute little boy.")  "Sure thing kid.  of course you can marry her.  And when you ask her, here, use her late mother's diamond ring.  It'll mean a lot to her."

Sad... But whew!!!

Just got married 2 months ago which still seems like yesterday!

Spent way more than I care to admit. We went with a venue that included the cakes and DJ, and spent a good amount of money on a photographer. Bought fake flowers and invitations from Micheal's, and my dress was off a clearance rack.

Should've, would've, could've saved tons of money and eloped.

jmk-brooklyn - 2013-02-05 12:40 PM Weddings with cash bars or with just beer/wine always feel chintzy to me.

I'll get to the costs later after I speak with management, but regarding the drinks, we made a choice of having only wine, no hard stuff. Besides the fact that I don't drink alcohol, after 5 years as an EMT-D in which I took too many drunks out of what was left of their cars, I decided that I do not want anyone driving away drunk. Added to that the fact that my FIL really likes a good drink (or two, or three,or four...), and I didn't even have to work hard to convince my wife.

As for how it looked, I wasn't really concerned about that.

Paid for by my ex-husband and myself.

Around $8,000.

Spent roughly $6,000 on:

8 people to go to Cozumel, Mexico for a 4-day all inclusive hotel stay ($4,000). One of those people was my Mom's boyfriend who is a wedding photographer (I paid for his trip- free wedding photos).

Maybe $250 on the judge, wedding cake and wedding planner.

Then around $250 for dinner after the wedding (I paid for all the wedding guests- we had 15 people).

The rest of the money was spent on our week long honeymoon to Costa Rica.

Alot! In-laws were giving away their last daughter and wanted to go out big, I suppose.  We even had a wedding planner since we live in Chicago and we were getting married on the beach in Longboat Key, Florida.  But the best part of the wedding was this (across the street from the wedding!http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-10860293_ITM

About $9k.  I had spent the wedding money my parents had set aside on a condo (down payment) when I was 25, so I needed to pay for my own wedding.  I rented the BOQ at the Point Loma Naval Sub base for $300 and just had to use their caterer.  Paid $800 for my wedding dress and my admin asst made wedding cakes on the side, so she made mine as a gift. The photographer and catering were pretty close in expense.

ETA:  Married 11 years this April.  Met on Matchmaker.com.

The location, for $300, was gorgeous.  Some of the best real estate in San Diego:

Everything was under $5000.00 which was her parent's limit so we made it work.

Ummm...about $500. (Not forgetting zeros...yes that's hundred)

That pretty much covered everything. Including rings, dress, suit jacket...

I really don't regret having the wedding I did. I realized when thinking about it that I didn't really want a wedding with a bunch of people, where I get all fancied up. Plus, his family is in WA and my family is in IL. So we just offended everyone and didn't invite anyone.

We did have a (very) low-key reception in IL for my friends and family. Had snacks and did a little cake and cupcakes.

I do plan on having a big party around my 10th anniversary though. Celebrate still being happily together, without all the "pressure" of wedding-ness.

Not including $1200 engagement ring and rehearsal dinner ours was $2300 ish. That includes honeymoon, dress, photos and album. My wife's church family and family did sooo much. Food, video, and photos were all gifts. My tux was free since my groomsmen rented theirs from same place. Honeymoon was great little mountain resort. Went back for our 15yr reunion. My wife was not as impressed the second time. I'm very glad that we don't need to get remarried. We all live within our means. Our means were much different then. However, I will not let my girls know this when they decide to take the plunge. 2300 got the job done. 18years later it's still working great.

More likely food, rent, or a downpayment for a house. When we got married, spending $10K on a wedding was unfathomable. Even now spending $25K+ on a single event is beyond comprehension. Even if it was someone else's money.

I was lucky enough to go to an Indian wedding of a work colleague in the UK - it was a 3 day extravaganza - about 12 years ago.  There were bottles of Scotch, Bacardi, Vodka you name it on the tables.  Cigarettes cigars - food like I'd never seen.  This was the two day lead up.  On the actual day we sat in the Sikh temple for the best part of about 5 hours.

Then onto a venue for Indian drummer, dancers etc.  Again food and drink plentiful.  This was an arranged marriage.

It cost the parents of the bride around 60,000 pounds back then.  However with the 600+ guests a lot from India, the monetary gifts they got enabled them to buy a house.....

It remains one of the best weddings I've ever attended (except my own...)

I *think* I have the record low end wedding: $55 for licence, $20 for each witness since we paid a couple strangers who were hanging out at the weird , new age church to witness. No dress, no honeymoon, no ring and no guests.

$90 for the divorce.

Sooo, marrige and divorce aka 'combo pack' was $185 total.

This was in 1990.

skipg - 2013-02-05 3:31 PM Getting married this May and since this is our second marriage we wanted to pay for everything ourselves...a good wedding photographer is super expensive and one of the biggest ticket items starting around $3000 and up to whatever you want to spend.

that number is VERY regional.  my photog was around $1800 and my photos are wonderful.

yeah, we contacted about 5 photographers in the area and all were similar in price here. The biggest pain in the arse about the photographers is the minimum package price to guarantee that they would book you several months out. We have the option to spend less "under$3000" but if you go for this option they won't let you book them until 6 weeks out from the event...giving them more time to book a more expensive wedding and possibly leaving you without a reputable photographer and scrambling at the last minute to try and book another!

Smart business move but just dirty I tell ya! So we caved and booked them early so we wouldn't have to worry later.

About $11,000. Big costs were the location tent rental, band, catering, the grooms suit, and slightly less so, my dress and photographer. Grooms parents kicked in for the alcohol and my parents kicked in for the catering so costs to us were about $8000. I didn't count the honeymoon(s) in their either. Can't remember the cost of those, but we likely would have taken some trips anyway.

Married 8.5 years ago.

Ours was somewhere around $15,000. Most of that was the venue/dinner/drinks/etc at close to $80 per person for 100 people total. The band was $1800. Flowers were about $1200...and the only expense I regret. We hired an old friend who was just breaking into professional photography...$500 total including rights to all photos. My co worker got ordained just to perform our ceremony (free). We used Wedit rather than a videographer for $550. I used my airline miles for first class seats to St. Lucia. A family friend made the cake for under $300. I made the invites for under $200.While $15k is a lot..we found a lot of areas where we could save.My parents gave us $5k and bought my dress, his mom about $1k ...and we paid cash for the rest.

If there was ever an understatement that is it!  I've been there a few times TDY and love the views and weather.  If it wasn't for all the people, traffic and costs it'd be a great place to retire...

Straight from the strip, completely drunk and used self-tanner to the point that he was some weird off-bronze colour.  Totally worth the $50!

Under 5k, wife found her dress at a consignment shop $200, church was $50 for the Priest, $50 for the Rabbi, dad was a member of the K of C got us the hall for free, friend did photos as a gift, Cousin sang and played guitar during wedding as a gift, another friend handled music at reception as a gift.Wedding was done early on a friday so no tux rental. cake was a couple hundred (got a discount due to another friend who was the bakery manger). Most expensive items were the invitations and the food at the reception.Paid for the Honeymoon with cash we received as wedding gifts, (and bought a washer and dryer). We did however only pay for first round and had champagne on the tables for the toast so the alcohol bill was reasonable. Had about 70 people show up. Still married 20 years later.

My wife is extremely frugal and wanted to keep it reasonable, too. Since her parents were just making ends meet for themselves, my Mom was even poorer, and my Dad wasn't around, we saved and saved and paid for the whole thing ourselves. Overall cost was *drumroll* under $1500.00. Her beautiful wedding dress was under 100 bucks, surprisingly. We had about 100 guests but the dinner and D.J. cost was around 500 dollars, I believe. Living in a small town in Northern 'Sconnieland allows for that kind of luxury.

We just spent $25,000 in October for our daughter's wedding.  The wedding was in Atlanta rather than here in Sarasota, since that's were they live and since most of the guests were flying in for the ceremony.  It made more logistical sense to have everyone fly to Atlanta instead of Sarasota.  The $25K included the site rental, a wedding planner, dinner for 125 at the reception, flying our pastor in from Sarasota, and shuttle buses from the hotel where we had a block of rooms for out-of-town family and guests.  Our daughter and her fiance offered to take care of the flowers, invitations and photographer, which cost them around $5,000.  Her fiance's family paid for the rehearsal dinner, so don't know how much that cost.
