Subject: Structure an Olympic Distance base building phase for me
Relatively new to triathlon, looking to do a couple sprints early in the season and focus on maybe two good olympic distance races late in the season. Just doing base right now. I have a strong running background. How should I be training at this time of the year? I normally train twice a day on weekdays and do long run/long ride or long ride/long run on the weekends.

What kind of volume are you doing right now?  What is the breakdown of SBR during the week?

Like 4 swims, 4 runs, 4 bikes. Maybe 8-10k swimming, 30-35 miles running, 100-110 miles biking (although on the trainer I just go by time, so maybe 5 hours of riding total). Long run is about 90 min or around 12 miles on the weekend, long ride on the trainer about 2 hours. 3k is a substantial swim workout for me, 2k is pretty easy and/or average.

Sounds like you already are doing a solid base building regimen for the OLY distance. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Agreed. If you REALLY want to go for time, your base is probably more than sufficient. Drop a medium run a week and do a tempo run or fartlek (but make sure you take care of your legs and rest adequately).

With that volume, a sprint should be cake and an oly a step up. You could probably do either one tomorrow.

The volume is fine. Should do well if you can hit all those regularly. To do better, what are you doing with the sessions?

You're easily doing enough volume there for an Oly. Depending on your goals and strengths and weaknesses you might want to shuffle around between run/bike/swim focus, But I think if you can maintain that volume you'll be in great shape for sprint and Oly distances this season.
