This message is for reecealan or anyone else who is familiar...has anyone gotten the Retul fit at Elite Cycle (I think it is Elite that is doing this now).  Have you had it done yet? How much was it?  What was your experience?

I started to look at it, and then went in another direction.  Retul website lists pricing as $300 for an existing bike, $350 if they're helping you buy a new bike.  It might vary slightly from that at Elite, but I bet it's pretty darn close.

Wow.  That is much higher than I expected.  I ride a Cervelo Dual that I bought used for not a whole lot more than that.  Ha ha!  I know that bike fit is important, but it may be a while before I do that.

I was at Elite two weeks ago. $300 for Retul and $150 for standard fitting. Their was some sort of discount with the purchase of a bike but I cant remember.

My fit is scheduled for Monday.  I bought a Felt road bike there about a year and a half ago and they quoted me $275 for the Retul fit a few months ago.  They showed me the computer output and what's involved and that's what sold me.  I might buy a TT bike this year so I want to get the optimum fit done before I purchase.  They are also going to fit me to my Felt with an aerobar setup as my original ftting was for a road position.  Sometimes when you get fit for aerobars on a road bike you were originally fit for will require a new stem and/or other adjustments.

Is it worth $250-$300?  I don't know for sure but I want an optimized bike fit so I can make a well informed decision when I make a purchase AND I want to be fast. Smile

MIT figured out an easy and cheap fit system for a road bike that will put you right in the ball park for fine tuning your fit. Most people I know that pay for a fit end up making small adjustments afterward anyway.

I checked it out on my self fitted road bike and every step in the article matched what I had set up!

I would highly recommend getting a FIST fit on a GURU computerized fit bike if you can, especially if you are going to purchase a TT/Tri bike.  The GURU fit bike is cooked up to a computer and a computrainer, so you can see how small changes effect wattage output.  I bit the bullet and drove all the way to St Louis (SBR Tri shop there is the closest to KC that does this).  You go through a ton of different seats, aerobar/basebars, and then adjust all the different measurements on the fit bike.  From there, you determine which bikes will work best for you.

It cost about the same as the Retul fit, and I was able to add it into a little weekend vaca in St Louis.  It did take almost 3 hours for the fit though.  However, it was awesome.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I bought my bike (from Cycle City), took my measurements from my FIST fit and adjusted the bike, and hopped on and was instantly comfortable.

There are some stellar articles over on slowtwitch about bike fit, that if you are really interested in, are a fascinating read.
