is it safe to assume if i can hold an avg speed of 17.5mph for 4 hrs that i can hold the same pace (or very close) for another 2-3 hours(IM distance)? I am gradually working up the distance, but i am curious to how accurate my bike split calculation will be. Thanks for the help.

Too many factors to consider. Not enough information from you...

What are you doing after the 4 hours that you are riding now? Running? How far?

You might be able to average 17.5 mph for 112 miles but then you should factor in what your goal is after you get off of the bike as well.

WHEN do you want to be able to do the 112 miles at this pace? November? 2 years from now? Then again, maybe your back can only take 5 hours of riding as opposed to 6 or 7.

Of course, someone here will invariably ask what color your bike is too. I think that is supposed to be a determining factor on BT Laughing

But since it looks like you are going for a yes/no answer, I'm gonna go with "YES" with a caveat of "eventually"....

the answer would be "yes" but would depend on your endurance training and how honed your fuel consumption is.

barring any extraordinary circumstances, which there always are at an iron distance race like heat, wind, flats, crashes, etc. there should not be a problem.

the problem at the IM usually doesn't surface in the bike leg for people pacing by speed, it usually surfaces on the run when your bike leg catches up to you if you didn't pace it correctly.

I think you could, but all types of things can happen in a race. Weather, bike issues. Just keep doing what your doing, you will get there. Don't forget to work on harder shorter rides as well as the long ones.
