Okay, So I've lost 100 pounds already and have about 100 more to go. Sounds crazy right? so why am I here?? I have set a goal to accomplish a triathalon in about 2 years or so.  I am 45.   Can I do this?? I really want to.  I have made up my mind to do this. Obviously, right now, I am just getting moving slowly.  But I am looking for support and encouragement for my dream.  I believe in myself. I just need direction.

Thats fantastic Melissa.  You're doing something phenominal!!!  Keep it up and don't be afraid at all to try a triathlon.  You'll love it.

Under mentor groups you should find an open group and join it - a really good way to learn and get some great advice.  I saw one group run by "Jenny" that looked friendly and is still open.  If you join the group don't be afraid to tell them what you can do now and ask lots of questions - most people will be really supportive.

There are many people here who've lost 100+ pounds here (still very inspirational).  At my 1st sprint last year there was a woman who was very overweight (300+) and she finished and I don't think she had much training so if you prepare properly and with your weight already lost you should be able to do it for sure.

My wife made friends with a woman who started at 369 and is down over 100 pounds (down now to about 170) and she ran Ironman Canada last year in under 15 hours.

Good luck and keep it up.  You'll have bad days at times but there'll be lots of good ones to.

Thank you so much George for the MOST encouraging words!  I thought that I was still to big to even begin to train! Now I am super excited to start!! I will look for that group and join!!! I really hope I can accomplish this!  Its a completely new area for me!  I'm not even sure WHAT questions to ask! LOL.  But I'm looking forward to reaching this goal!

Start slow and there is no reason you cannot I have lost 138 lbs and did my first triathlon after loosing about 106. It was a sprint that I spent about 5 months training for not only did it feel amazing and I enjoyed it, it has helped me loose more weight and kept me motivated.

I ended up doing a Olympic about 3 months after my sprint with even better results and have a full year planned this year including a HIM

Congrats on your weight loss so far and on your commitment to yourself, fantastic!  And yes, you can do this!  Definitely get into a mentor group, ask questions when you have them.  I have learned a ton in the past year on this site, a lot of it just by reading others' questions and the answers to them.  Good luck in your journey!

Wow, that's awesome! Keep up  the good work, and don't let the haters get you down. You've done something that is, by measure, almost impossible to do. Through sheer will power and resolve, you've managed to remove the mass of a whole other person from yourself. This triathlon thing will be right up you alley. Rock it like you're the only person there!

Who, Girl, you are a total rock star!!!!!  My hat is off to you.  Go and don't let anyone, anywhere get in your way.  I've been running for 3+ years.  I have only done one sprint tri thus far but please always feel free to ask me anything.  I'll help with what I know and then try to find out answers to other things that I don't know.  I'm so proud of you!  Begin training now and never compare yourself to others.  Dead last trumps DNF.  DNF trump DNS.  You have already accomplished more than 99% of the people in the world.
