So, I thought my news shoes would help prevent this problem....it's worse!  Why do you think my left foot goes completely numb?  I can't keep running when this happens (which is good for bringing my hr down...but not so much for training)....so anyone have any suggestions?

I had a problem similar to this and, through trial and error, found that I was tying my laces too tight.  If loosening the laces doesn't help, see your doctor.  Your feet aren't anything to play around with.

yeah, everytime i've heard somebody getting numb feet it was the laces being too tight, especially at the forefoot (is that a word?) when you buy new shoes the laces are always too tight.

Try a metatarsil pad. You can get them from hapad.com
It did the trick for me. They even tell you where to place them. And I had to spend all that money at the podiatrist just to find this out.
Good luck, hope they help.

you may want to try a different lacing pattern to relieve pressure. but odd that it's only one foot though. is your left your bigger foot? anyhoo, here is a link to different lacing patterns for different problems. http://www.newbalance.com/techcenter/footwear/lacing_for_a_better_f... you may want to try the one for pain on the top of feet. it helped fix a friends problem. i'm fan of the high arch option.

Thanks so much for the input!  Yeah....it is weird that it's only the left foot.. I guess I'm lopsided!  I always knew I was a bit off....but this wasn't the 'off' I thought I was!

I had this happening too and discovered it was due to my pelvis and lower back being out of alignment. I'd recommend that you visit a sports chiropractor and have them check your lower back. It still happens every once in awhile, but all I have to do is get it readjusted and it's fixed.

I suffered the exact same problem last week after buying new shoes. The solution turned out to be changing my lacing pattern so it didn't extend so high up my shoe and not tying the laces so obsessive compulsively tight.
