See the Daily News of Open Water Swimming for details of a controversy about the use of bubble swim caps in marathon swims http://dailynews.openwaterswimming.com/2013/03/to-bubble-or-not-to-...

The bubble caps have been around since the 1930's and are a great option for cold open water swims. They have been used on English Channel swims for many years and are English Channel legal.
Some swimmers voted no to their use not knowing the history of use in the English Channel and other marathon swims as noted on the survey answers on the Marathon Swimmers Forum. They are a great training option when worn over a silicon cap pulled low and are easy to put on over the neoprene caps as well and come in head sizes and many colors.

I just can't get over the guys picture in the article.  I'm all about looking cool, and that cap would not make me look cool.

Personally, I have no opinion on the use or not.

as a triathlete, i am fully aware that i am laughed at for what i wear by not only the general public, but also runners for wearing tights, swimmers for wearing jammers, and bikers for wearing sleeveless shirts.

if they can dish it out on me, i feel entitled to making the observation that, no matter how bad @$$ a swimmer this guy happens to be, he still looks like he has a condom wrapped over his head
