if we're talking an early workout:
WATER, coffee + real food

if it's an after-work workout:
WATER + either guinness or red wine

When I work out in the evenings good wheat or dark beer for me.

Morning workouts are usually a bananna, peanut butter toast, choc milk, and water.

I'm not sure what "real food" is, a carb is a carb, and a gram of protein is a gram of protein.

the more I learn, the more I believe that is not true.

Milk. Not because of its nutritional value or anything just cuz its stinking delicious chocolate syrup added if its around.

If I'm feeling really shot then I make a shake with a banana, scoop of recovery powder, milk & whatever fruits are lying around. Choco/strawberry syrup added sometimes

the more I learn, the more I believe that is not true.

It's been a while since I was in a chemistry class, it used to be carbon, hydrogen and oxygen bonded together.  Maybe they changed it Smile

Lately I've been making coconut milk smoothies with fruit -- usually berries, but I just tried frozen mango the other day. Add some chia -- mmmmmmm.

During the summer when I'm running early, I'll treat myself to an iced "long run latte," whole milk of course.

I go for a very large smoothie with a large mix of frozen and fresh fruit and enough whey protein to get a good balance of carbs and protein. If I don't have access to that, I go with First Endurance Ultragen. One of the few products I would even consider a sponsorship from.

Chocolate milk and a peanut butter and banana sandwich.  Protein, carbohydrates, electrolytes, sugar, and salt.  All the things you need.

I work out in the mornings so I usually have a breakfast smoothie.

fresh banana, frozen mixed cut fruit, french vanilla yogurt, grape juice, flax seed meal, honey and spinach.

On the rare afternoon work out it's usually followed by water and Belvita blueberry cookie oatmeal bars

I am not much of a beer drinker, but I swear that a stout or porter is a magical recovery drink.  If it is a long workout, I'll add PB&J.
